Glad I ditched Sky TV 2 months ago and got a Freesat box. Signed up for NowTV for 6.99 pm and 4 months free, not missing sky at all and loving the extra cash in the bank for a holiday.

That's the exact move that keeps popping into my head.
I just don't fancy the prospect of 2 sources, 2 remotes etc.

Can i justify the cost of sky for the convenience & few extra programmes though?
Still at 50/50 on that one.

This is sort of what I was getting at in this thread.

I can see more people doing something similar, especially when they review what they actually watch compared to what they have.

Re: Sky TV Price rise June 2015

I can't see me continuing beyond my current deal unless they offer me another big discount.
It really is overpriced and I can't justify the immense cost.
I have never watched the majority of the channels that sly offer, so why would I want to pay for them.

I won't miss the small amount of programs I like to watch as they are all available via the web.

So, it is quite likely that my Freesat box will be brought out of it's hibernation in September (I think).

Is there anywhere on 'my sky' where it say when your current deal / contract ends?

Worth considering also is that a new NowTV box is supposedly out this year.

Hopefully with ethernet, more channels on the service & maybe HD too?

I've currently got offers on TV & Multi-room, but when those expire I'll be calling to make changes (unless further sweeteners are offered). The first candidate to go is likely to be Multi-room, which I am thinking of replacing with a Freesat Freetime STB - nice looking UI and you get all of the HDD capacity for own use (will that ever catch on as a thing? ). As for main TV, I agree that NOW TV is beginning to look like an attractive & flexible alternative to Sky+HD (perhaps with dips into Netflix and other services from time to time).

I don't think so, but in the billing area you can see subscription charges 3 months in advance.

Otherwise it's a quick call to sky.

Would be a nice addition to mysky to have your current discounts shown there with their end dates.
The discounts are shown there but not exactly when they start/end.
I currently have one for 24 months off sky sports that luckily I made a not for when it ends in July.

Re: Sky TV Price rise June 2015

Just got my '2.00 pm extra' letter.

The main reason I keep subscribing (variety), is the convenience and simplicity of the sky+ recording and catchup features. If I were to switch to another box, it would need to be as simplistic (to use) as the Sky one is, for my mother, who suffered a stroke a few years back. Is there such an 'all in one box'? (needs to use existing dish)

Freesat HD+ Freetime STBs look to be similar in terms of those features, and can re-use the Sky dish - but of course it doesn't decode the Sky channels.
