Sky News Named RTS News Channel of the Year

      https://corporate.sky.com/media-cent...el-of-the-year

Sky News has been named the News Channel of the Year at the annual Royal Television Society Awards, beating off competition from CNN and BBC News. This is a record-making ninth time Sky News has won the award.

Head of Sky News, John Ryley, said: “The RTS Awards are the major ceremony in the awards calendar where we are judged by our peers and are up against the toughest competition. Winning News Channel of the Year once more is testament to our brilliant team at Sky News who work tirelessly to produce multi-platform coverage with distinction and flair. This award is for everyone who works in the newsroom.”

The RTS judges commented: “The winning entry stood out for the range of coverage, for hitting some of the year’s big issues early and in-depth, and for the energy and innovation evident in its approach to major events.”

Sky news was short-listed in a further two categories including News Coverage – Home, and News Technology.

Re: Sky News Named RTS News Channel of the Year

Sadly, Sky News isn't what it used to be. Saying that, the same could be said for most news channels. Everything is trivial/gossip or interrogating news. The worst part is, Sky News cares, cares too much for what goes on Twitter that it feels like it is Twitter TV now.

There are far too many journalists thats lost credibility now especially senior. Trying to be hip with the lot on Twitter/best buds mentality.

I watch about 10 minutes of mainstream national tv news per week...

Just to see what silly propaganda they're pushing this time.

Personally I can't watch any news channel which is interrupted by frequent advert breaks.

That is so very true, Scubbie.

Program starts on the hour, break about 11 - 13 minutes past? Adverts for 3 - 5, news for 2 - 3 minutes, they revert to sports (god knows why as thats why Sky Sports News HQ exists, 401) shows how little news there is. Adverts 2 - 4 minutes. News starts again roughly 31 - 33 minutes, adverts again about 40 - 46 that varies. News again 50 - 53, News reader gets cut off badly, sometimes the same on the half hour (as Sky News are awful, awful at managing their time, Ski Reports (usually at night) for 40 seconds to 1 minute. Adverts for the remainder. News kicks in on the hour. Rinse and repeat.

America is even worse. Ads every 5 - 7 minutes into the programme. However, they can manage their time without any newsreader looking like an ass due to being abruptly cut off talking as the ads kick in.
