ISP Sky Broadband UK Warns of Phone Line Rental Price Rise

ISP Sky Broadband UK Warns of Phone Line Rental Price Rise - ISPreview UK
As expected Sky Broadband has started warning customers that the price they pay for phone line rental on their broadband bundles, which is currently set at £15.40 per month, is set to rise just like BT’s will on 1st December 2014.

Unfortunately Sky are being their normal cryptic selves and have so far only explained the plan by using the following choice of wording: “Sky’s line rental price will increase on 1 December 2014, but will remain cheaper than BT’s standard monthly price of £16.99 a month (from 1 December).”

We wouldn’t be surprised if they added an extra £1 and made it £16.40. Sadly Sky, unlike many of other big ISPs, scrapped their pre-paid line rental discount scheme earlier this year and so customers have no choice but to pay the standard rental price. Credits to Thinkbroadband for spotting this update.

      Prices up yet again.

No wage rise for several years.

      Sick of it all!

Re: ISP Sky Broadband UK Warns of Phone Line Rental Price Rise

I sort of expected that, as I've seen all the others doing it.
But it really will not go down well.
I do wish they would just have one increase slot a year and not do September and December.

One day we will be able to have broadband without the line rental, no Im dreaming.
Its just a forced cost now. Wonder what the £15 per customer actually pays for.
I very rarely use the landline phone, but as its free with sky, not something I care about.
Currently have the free sky broadband for 2 year deal, suppose thinking about it, its really costing £15.40 a month.
Just looked on mysky and its not listed on the future bills right up Jan 2015. But they do say expected bills!

Any idea if this applies to current static customers or customers and newbies taking up offers and services since the warning of the increase.
If you got to do it, Samsung it.

Certainly existing customers, such as myself, will be affected.

As for customers with existing offers, I would have to say that it will depend on the offers and their very specific wording. Beyond that, at this time I don't have any specific detail.

Sky normally send out a letter to everyone affected, so please look out for yours.

Ok thankyou, I was wondering how they were going to implement the rise for exsisting customers, ( like wait until minium term expires and then implement). My cabinet was FFTC enabled early last week, not impressed with sky fibre £50.00 connection nor the monthly price or the upload of SKYs standard fibre package. Ill be looking for the letter with interest!

Re: ISP Sky Broadband UK Warns of Phone Line Rental Price Rise

Since the contact centre is closed now until tomorrow morning it's probably okay to post this:
Line rental is going up to £16.40 per month and 1571 Voicemail is going to have a £1 per month charge from 1st December.

This will affect ALL customers except where they are on an offer with a stated price point, like £9.99 Line Rental retention offer or where they have paid the line rental up-front for 12 months, these customers won't see the increase until their offer period ends. Customers on a half price or 35% off (common among new customer offers - it gave £10 line rental) will still get the discount off the new price. All will also still get the 1571 increase if they have that on their account too.

Customers in their minimum term can cancel with a weeks notice without Early Termination Charges or can port their number to their chosen other supplier (they should still call retentions to tell Sky they are doing this and get the ETC exempted from their account).

There are also some further increases to non-inclusive call rates which seem to creep up every few months without much fanfare.

Re: ISP Sky Broadband UK Warns of Phone Line Rental Price Rise

Just had a look at my upcoming bills in mysky and the increase has just appeared for the Dec and Jan bills, was not there yesterday. Lline rental has gone up by £1 and there is a voicemail charge of £1
This is not going to be popular after the increases in September, for most who have the basic free call package plus line rental at £15.40, this will be a 13% increase for phone/line rental.
A £2 increase is crazy and why are we being charged now for voicemail?
Will have to ditch it, will use the one on the phone. Very rarely does anyone ever leaves a message anyway.
For me I rarely use my home phone for calls, just a few free ones in evenings and weekend to family. Use my free mobile minutes for everything else.
The line rental is really just a tax for my broadband.

Just spoke with live chat, hilarious, he said they had been inundated with people asking.
You can cancel voicemail online here, and with the details.
      https://secure.sky.com/cancel-voicemail
Caller display remains free, well for now.

I assume they won't automatically switch voicemail off now, if unused in 90 days?
