I assume because my own answer phone is always on, it never kicks in.

I will have to opt out then just to be sure.
Mind you, if anyone did leave a message on it, I would never access it.

      Interesting.....

I just followed the link to cancel voicemail and it said I can't because I don't have an active voicemail!

So it can't have been enabled by default and I have never cancelled it as I was not aware that I had it.

Voicemail deactivates automatically if not used in 90 days.

That might be different now they charge 1 for it.

Surely if you do not have voicemail active, dialling 1571 is the way to check.
Also wouldn't the 1571 voicemail service activate before a physical answering machine?

It's all down to how many rings occur before your own answer machine kicks in.

With 1571 this can't be altered & for most people is 6 rings.
So set your machine at 5 & you'll be ok, set it at 7 & it'll never get a chance.

Re: ISP Sky Broadband UK Warns of Phone Line Rental Price Rise

If I was on the phone and someone were to call, they would automatically be directed to the 1571 service.

Since I could be on the phone for a few hours and there would be no indication, other than picking the phone up again after the call, I often didn't realise that there was a message.

If I am out, then my phone's ansaphone nearly always gets the message.

Now I've cancelled it, as happened the other day, they get the engaged tone. The person sent me a text via my mobile to let me know to call her.

As they say, there are more ways to crack an egg.

My answer machine is set at 8 rings and is always on 24/7 as I am hard of hearing and can miss the phone if in some areas of my house and garden.

If set to 8 rings, that's another confirmation that the 1571 service is deactivated.

My dad's 1571 is off & has no answerphone of his own, so it will ring forever until the person hangs up.

Re: ISP Sky Broadband UK Warns of Phone Line Rental Price Rise

      Hello All
So once again the 'sky price fairy' has landed +1.00 a month & still no
mention of the 12 mth advance payment scheme why ?? is the reason monthly
allows sky to maximize its revenue stream ?? I have tried the 1571 link & it
appears I do not have this option.
As I have the original sky freetime pack evenings & weekends I will stick with it
for the time being but being without sky now with all the other options does not
      seem such a bad idea........Just a Thought......
      have a good Evening....
