Re: Sky Broadband UK Warns of Forthcoming TV Bundle Price Hike

Taking just into account the TV part of my bill, I have a 5.645% increase from 62 to 65.50 per month.

To put it another way, that's a change from 744 to 786 per year. Yes it hurts. The figure is above the inflation rate by nearly 3 times.

In fairness though if I didn't have Multiscreen I would be looking at an increase of around 6.8%, which is around 3.5 times the rate of inflation.

I do expect the Line Rental and perhaps the Broadband price to rise around November too. Last November the Line Rental rose by 90p. That was a 6.2% increase, but no one made as much fuss back then.

Thankfully the Broadband prices haven't risen for a while now. However Sky are developing a few new broadband products. They have also invested their TV content, which will have gone up.

So yes Sky has increased many of their prices above the rate of inflation in the past year. It will be interesting to see what their annual report says at the end of this month.

I thought I could cancel my account or part of it via live chat.

Just tried that and was told I have to phone to cancel even though I stated I was hard of hearing.

Looks like I will have to try a phone call and if that fails, I will send a letter as advised on here.

Re: Sky Broadband UK Warns of Forthcoming TV Bundle Price Hike

I have managed to cancel via telephone.
Wasn't easy and had to ask the rep to repeat themselves a number of times.
Lost count of the number of times I was put on hold.
I was offered a deal to stay, but jumped in before he got to the price and said I am not interested, I want to cancel.

So my monthly bill will drop from around 125 to 54.40 as I am keeping the phone service and fibre pro unlimited.

I have had the TV package since day one and have never ever had a discount on anything.

August 15'th is my parole date!

Now to get a freesat box with pvr. The hard drive in my sky box can go into the freesat box as it is a 2TB drive I installed several years ago.

I do not think that you will be able to play back any of the recordings from the Sky STB when you install the drive in your new Freesat+ HD STB.

As for drive specs., formatting, etc. do check any relevant forums. Copy+ may work and allow you to format the drive.

Re: Sky Broadband UK Warns of Forthcoming TV Bundle Price Hike

I know I won't be able to view any recordings left on the drive. Between now and my parole date, we will watch as much as we can and if there is anything we really want to see but are running out of time, then I will copy them onto dvd's overnight.

Just picked up my freesat box with a 500Gb drive, soon to be a 2Tb drive when sky TV ends.

I will set it up alongside the sky box to allow my technophobe wife to get used to it. Being a satellite enthusiast, I have loads of coax in the garage.

      Hello All

further increase around November as suggested by scubbie !! sky will follow any BT
increase !! not sure about BB as they will try to counter BT covering the '
      Free Sport'
with a line rental rise ?? Hope it all works out with 'Freeview pvr' It would be nice
to know what if anything you Miss.............
      !! ........Good Luck

Just in case someone misinterprets my post, I am just speculating.

Sometimes I may have a little knowledge through sources, but this speculation is based upon experience over the past few years on the timing. Your guess at this stage would be as good/bad as mine as to how much any change would go up by.

Re: Sky Broadband UK Warns of Forthcoming TV Bundle Price Hike

If fibre and the telephone service are going up in price later in the year and there are alternatives that are reliable and better priced for the same service level, then I will also look at that and act accordingly.

I have no complaints at all with the sky phone service and fibre, but I won't pay more than I have to for what I accept as a certain level of required service.

      Hello All
I think we would all understand that any speculation regarding an increase in the
Line rental would more then likely be well founded based on BT past history they
normally issue a statement of intent in November with a start date of the following
Jan & Sky follow as BT are the Line Hosts.
There is know such thing as ' Free' 2 yrs 'BB or 'Sports' somebody has to cover the
      Cost !!..................

      Just a Thought........

Re: Sky Broadband UK Warns of Forthcoming TV Bundle Price Hike

Most people just look at the headlines. They never bother to look at the detail and just assume that everything else is equal.

With everything else going on, the Broadband prices have either remained the same or been heavily discounted by all the providers.

I can't see Sky being the first to raise the price of Broadband, especially when it isn't competitive on the price.
