Current price (disregarding 5.13 half price HD discount) is 33.75 here.
My letter states it's only going up by 1.
      Well isn't that fair!

I too have had the letter: 4/month extra.

It would be interesting to know how much, if at all, general Sky pricing is subsidising Sky Sports. Not much, I suspect - it does, after all, cost extra. (cf. All BT broadband customers pay for BT Sport. That is what "free" means.)

What I do object to is the enormous retention and new customer discounts that are frequently mentioned here. Why? Because I am paying for them, and as a long term subscriber (we have had Sky Sports since 1992) I get no discount at all.

Perhaps we could have a loyal customer discount, a bit like NCD in insurance...?!

Poor example on NCD been with direct line for 18 years. They still quote me 100 more for renewing than it would be to rejoin as a new customer. One 3 minute phone call later and they price matched themselves.

Unfortunately with sky there isn't the same option.

I think the only way to change the practice is for everyone to unsubscribe once their year is up to knacker their retention figures, then rejoin when an offer comes in. Not going to happen though..

Just gotten off the longest 'live chat' in history (perhaps not, but a good 2 hours!) they managed to persuade us to stay with an acceptable discount on the TV sub. We were fully ready to drop the TV completely - but what I was offered pretty much cancels / equals the cost I would have had to meet to find a similar PVR/streaming box replacement - so all's good for another 12 months!

It will be Tuesday or Wednesday before I do anything about cancelling as I have a lot going on until then.

I am not sure if offered a hefty discount that I would stay. I think I have convinced myself and my family that it is all far too expensive for what it is. Not a matter of being able to afford it.

That's exactly where we were - having watched the price go up every year, we'd reached the tipping point for it being value for money. Thankfully / unfortunately, they have managed to counter that argument for us!!

Well, the call has been made, no discounts offered this year so TV finishes on the 14th August and a Mac Code is on the way for the Fibre/Talk move to Plusnet.
