Sky Sports launches new channel dedicated to European football

      https://corporate.sky.com/media/pres...opean_football

Sky today announces good news for millions of its customers ahead of the new football season with confirmation that Sky Sports is to launch the first ever television channel dedicated to European football. Customers with Sky Sports will be able to receive the new channel Sky Sports 5 as part of their sports package, and as a further bonus they can also get two years’ free Sky Broadband Unlimited.

Sky Sports 5 will screen up to 600 live European football matches next season featuring some of the best players, the best teams and the best competitions. Sky Sports 5 will be the seventh channel from Sky Sports and will be the home of European Qualifiers for UEFA EURO 2016, UEFA Champions League, La Liga, Coppa Italia and Copa del Rey for Sky Sports viewers, plus a host of other European football programming including Revista De La Liga and Champions League Weekly.

For the first time Sky Sports will also offer exclusively live coverage of Holland’s top division Eredivisie. The new 4-year deal announced today will bring live matches from each round to Sky Sports 5, enabling viewers to follow the domestic campaigns of the Netherlands’ top teams including Ajax, Feyenoord, FC Twente and PSV Eindhoven.

Launched this week with a nationwide marketing campaign starring David Beckham, Sky Sports viewers can activate the channel from 12 June ahead of the channel going live on 12 August. As an added bonus, Sky TV customers with Sky Sports can also get two years’ free totally unlimited Sky Broadband Unlimited.

Barney Francis, managing director of Sky Sports, said:
“Sky Sports 5 takes our unrivalled live football coverage to the next level offering more European football than ever before. There’s never been a better time to be a Sky Sports customer and with two years’ free totally unlimited broadband, we offer the ultimate package for sports fans.”

      Sky Ambassador David Beckham added:
“Some of my greatest playing moments were on the European stage with Manchester United, playing in El Clasico for Real Madrid and captaining England in Euro qualifiers. Sky Sports 5 will offer all the drama and excitement that European football has to offer and I’ll certainly be gripped.”

Sky TV customers with Sky Sports will be able to register for Sky Sports 5 from 12 June via red button, online and by calling Sky. In a further bonus, Sky Sports customers can also get two years’ free Sky Broadband Unlimited worth £7.50 a month and get the great value of Sky’s totally unlimited broadband with no usage limits and no extra download charges. This, Sky’s best ever broadband offer, means Sky Sports customers could save up to £330 over two years.

Sky Sports will offer more live football than ever before next season with coverage from the international, European and domestic game and analysis from Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher, Jamie Redknapp and Graeme Souness.

The launch of Sky Sports 5 comes during another busy summer on Sky Sports with live England Test cricket, live golf every week including US Open and US PGA, every Formula 1 Grand Prix weekend, international rugby union including England’s tour to New Zealand, Super League and US Open and ATP tennis.

      Question.

What happens if you are already a sky sports customer that already has Sky Fibre.

Do you get a discount on your existing fibre contract automatically

Reading the Sky announcement it seems you have to Register for the new channel to get the discount. You can do this on-line, via the Red Button or by calling Sky. If in doubt call Sky!

I also want to know what happens if you are on ADSL and switch to FTTC after registering (my cabinet is due to go FTTC in Sept 2014 after several delays caused by BTO).

It's a bit confusing at this stage. Any additional information would be welcome........

The offer is in my sky now and working, wasn't earlier.
Sky sports 5 and all activated now, all for £0
It kept my 24 month sky sports discount also that I negotiated last year

See the minimum broadband contract for existing customers is now 18 months, they sneaked that in, matches all the other isp now
That is also odd as it is a 2 year free broadband offer.

Re: Sky Sports launches new channel dedicated to European football

Why do sky sports tv customers must ACTIVATE sky sports 5 as it should be automatically on it as part of sports pack. Are sky trying to flob us all off with a minimum 12 months term contract if we activated it? or are sky try to force us to have 2 years free unlimited broadband (Fibre isn't including) as BT sports take over next year.

Not sure if I must activated it? What happen if I don't activated it - will sky sports 5 still showing?

The Sky Press Release explains some of this. If you register from today you will get Sky Sports 5 immediately whereas the channel won't reach unregistered Sky Sports viewers for a further 3 months.

The offer is obviously designed to ensnare users in extended commitments for when Sky Sports current Champions League option lapses and BT Sport take it over for the next 3 years. It seems a very complex deal in terms of its eventual outcome. However if you intend staying with Sky for Sports then it's a good deal, if you intend migrating to BT Sport then it's of little interest. The actual decision isn't simple as the mix of matches varies as time goes by as some contracts end and others start. So it's about what suits you.

My reading is if you don't Register then you may not get the free ADSL or the £10 FTTC offers but only time will tell!

Think it through before doing anything. I'm sure someone will do a breakdown of what is happening and when as far as the soccer is concerned.

Re: Sky Sports launches new channel dedicated to European football

Sky just told me I can activate it just to add sky sports 5 on my sports pack (tv only) and don't need to have free sky broadband for 2 years as You will not be re-contracted if you do not take up the broadband offers and only activate the channel.

More info on offers, re-contracting & the channel:

      • New Broadband customers - 2 years free Broadband Unlimited when signing up to a 12 month minimum term for Broadband, Talk and Line Rental.
      • Existing Broadband customers - 2 years free Broadband Unlimited. Re-contract to an 18 month minimum term for Broadband, Talk and Line Rental.
      • New and existing Broadband customers - £10 a month Fibre Unlimited for 12 months when signing up to an 18 month minimum term for Broadband, Talk and Line Rental.
      • ROI customers are eligible for the channel only and not broadband offers.
      • Sky Sports, Broadband, Talk & Line Rental must stay on your account for the duration of the offer. If any of these products are cancelled the offer is lost and we revert to standard price for the remainder of the broadband contract.
      • You will not be re-contracted if you do not take up the broadband offers and only activate the channel.
      • If you move home the offer will come with you.
      • The channel is in HD & SD
      • If you already have a broadband offer then you would need to call us to have this offer removed before this offer is added.

Re-contracting is immediate with no cooling off period.

Re: Sky Sports launches new channel dedicated to European football

I've signed up for the broadband deal online and it kept the half price line rental deal I took last year when BT Sport launched. Add on the free 2 months Sky Go Extra and my discounts come to over £24 off the standard prices.
