Re: Sky Sports launches new channel dedicated to European football

Makes no odds to me who they have in their respective ads, I ain't subscribing to either, but Sky's strategy is interesting. They seem to be adopting their usual "aggressive" approach, except this time round they are competing with a company who can (financially at least), eat them for breakfast.

Over the next 5 years I fully expect BT to outbid Sky for basically everything sports related, including the Premier League. As a business whose success was built on the back of sport I think some of Sky's behaviour over rights and access to content may come back to haunt them.

Doesn't Bale live in Madrid. A fat lot of use BT broadband will be to him. A bit like Ross Kemp advertising hair gell.

Re: Sky Sports launches new channel dedicated to European football

You could switch your Line Rental to Sky as well if you wish.

Actually that would save you around 2.50 per month of Sky charges, plus the difference between BT's Line Rental (I believe this is currently 15.99) and Sky's (currently 15.40).

Sky Fibre Unlimited Pro: Connected at 80,000 kbps / 20,000 kbps
Previous ADSL2+ Speed 19999 kbps 1153 kbps, Line Attenuation 17.5 db 6.9 db, Noise Margin 7.5 dB 8.7 dB
      Speedtest: 17.15MB/s 0.97Mb/s Ping 31 ms

Re: Sky Sports launches new channel dedicated to European football

      Sorry, that'll be correct then.

Essentially the way it is legally worded is as follows:

      Sky Broadband Unlimited is 15

You get 2.50 discount for having Sky TV
You get a further 5.00 discount for having Sky's Line Rental (Sky Talk).

This makes it possible for Sky to advertise it at 7.50.

Sky Fibre Unlimited Pro: Connected at 80,000 kbps / 20,000 kbps
Previous ADSL2+ Speed 19999 kbps 1153 kbps, Line Attenuation 17.5 db 6.9 db, Noise Margin 7.5 dB 8.7 dB

Oh, no! It's going to have "integrated social media coverage".

There will be an "18 square-metre video wall". I'm sure that will be great fun for the presenters, which is good for them, but I shall still see just the TV screen in my sitting room.

And I bet all the text (will there still be text...?) on screen will be in upper case just to make it as difficult as possible to read.

Re: Sky Sports launches new channel dedicated to European football

In June I activated Sky Sports 5 (and received my discount on Sky Fibre for the first 12 months of the 18 months contract extension).

I think I have done this successfully - my bill does show the discounted cost.

But Sky marketing does not know this - today they sent me a text message giving me instructions on how to activate SS5. Leaving aside that I have set my communications preferences to "email only" because I do not wish to receive phone calls or text messages from Sky at all (oh, wait a minute, maybe it's just that they are not sufficiently technically astute to distinguish email and SMS), it is a concern that Sky's systems are so pathetically useless that they cannot tell whether or not I have activated SS5.
