Re: Sky and Talk Talk join forces for 1gb fibre Internet.

I think that there are a number of good points from this deal which will be interesting to watch.

      • The most obvious point is that Sky & TalkTalk will offering a 1Gbit Internet service from sometime in 2015. This is faster than BTO is currently offering.
      • TalkTalk will also be selling the network to businesses.
      • For those in York it will be a service independent of either BTO or Virgin Media.
      • They intend to expand the network soon to other cities, with an announcement of two other cities 'in due course'

Of course CityFibre has already rolled out their services to 56 towns & cities already. So there is a possibility that Sky & TalkTalk could start selling broadband products there too. This would quickly make VM's 152mb d/l & 10mbup look like a snail and BTO's FTTP at 330mb d/l and 30 u/l look pathetic.

I would trust that Sky will retain their 'truly unlimited' status. In light of the TV services which are coming soon, this would be very important to many people as streaming 4K UHDTV is now possible already.

Anything that involves TalkTalk is no good to anyone, they have the worse tech support and CS on the planet, if TalkTalk get involved in sky domestic BB and telephony service I'm off.

Funnily enough, Mrs. speedyrite & I have been considering where to live when I retire from working in IT (which is looking to be soon!) She is keen for us to move to her native Yorkshire, and York is one of the places under consideration. So this news gives it a few extra points for me

As a Sky customer you will still deal with Sky. I would expect there to be a separate call centre (similar to BTO) for Sky and TalkTalk to deal with when Engineers are required to work on the kit.

You're supposed to be retiring, not switching up to 1Gbit
