      Mine has just arrived.

I already have a wifi booster in my system which works well for the ground floor, first floor and garden, so I am hoping that this one will allow me to improve the signal on the top floor.
I have an old Victorian 3 storey house with thicker walls than modern houses.

I thought it would be larger than it is.

It's very small with no external antennae so I hope it is up to the job required.

I wonder why some are getting emails or text messages in some cases and others are not?

Sky do have my email address and my mobile device number.

I do check my spam folder several times daily.

I do not really understand why some customers receive text alerts / emails & others seem not to get any at all ??
All I can say is that when I picked an upgrade to EE+ & upgraded my sky+HD box to a Sky+HD 2TB box I received 3 text alerts + various emails regarding delivery & all went
very smoothly & the unit was delivered on the date stated with no problems !!! Maybe I was just Lucky...........

I didn't receive a despatch email, I had to log in to see that it had been sent out, I received a text message an hour after it had been delivered, telling me it had been delivered.

Re: Sky offers a free wireless booster as well as half price broadband

I received a text this morning to say it was out for delivery with Royal Mail and about 2 o'clock I received another to say it had been left in my "Safeplace".

Turns out that means it was left on the doormat!

Re: Sky offers a free wireless booster as well as half price broadband

The notifications will depend on your settings with Sky.

When I swapped from ADSL to FTTC with Sky I received a few letters, text messages and emails.

This time I just received a text this morning as it was scanned at the delivery office (just after 7am) and another timed at about a minute after it had been delivered to confirm the delivery.

As for performance, please do not expect Internet speeds of 40mbps on a 40mbps FTTC connection. Remember that the signal is being sent from the router to the Booster and then on to your device. I haven't done any speed testing on mine yet, but this really will vary between installations for a whole range of factors. Since many will be getting 35mb at best when connecting to the router directly, I would guess that 30mb might be what you get with this on a 40mb FTTC connection.

I noted that the device is using the same channel and SSID as the router this morning, so it really will be hogging the 2.4GHz spectrum when you are using it. Any neighbouring routers may be fighting for the same parts of the spectrum will disrupt the data being transmitted.

The signal strength appears to be similar to my WNDR3800. I didn't do any heavy testing though since I was off out for the afternoon. Most people posting in this thread are pretty savy when it comes to the technical stuff, but I'll mention these bits for anyone reading the thread who may be a little unsure:

      • Read the book that comes with it.
      • The guide is pretty simple as this device doesn't really require a lot of knowledge to get working.
      • Pages 14 and 15 talk about positioning the Booster. This is perhaps the single most important issue once you have connected it to your router. Basically the Booster needs to be in reach of your router's WiFi signal and in a place where it can then be picked up by the devices you want to use. Hopefully this will then cover any potential blackspot you have in your home.

Also, as a useful tip, if you have multiple devices which do not have WiFi, then simply connect a Network Switch to this device and in turn connect those devices without WiFi to the switch. They can then connect through the Booster to your router.

Sky Fibre Unlimited Pro: Connected at 80,000 kbps / 20,000 kbps
Previous ADSL2+ Speed 19999 kbps 1153 kbps, Line Attenuation 17.5 db 6.9 db, Noise Margin 7.5 dB 8.7 dB
      Speedtest: 17.15MB/s 0.97Mb/s Ping 31 ms
