Hi all, long time no post! (sorry!)

Received my booster this morning. It's "ok" ... ideally you need to site it somewhere that is going to get a good reception from the main router. If you place it on the edge of coverage, you'll be stuffed. As Scubbie says, it links via wifi to the main router to send and receive traffic, and then broadcasts in it's own area.

      Pros:
You can get away with only one wireless network at home.

      Cons:
Throughput on the booster really isn't brilliant!

I've disconnected mine already, I was hoping to turn off the Wifi-N on my Devolo homeplug upstairs, and just rely on one network. But in reality the throughput isn't good enough for my needs.

Very rough figures (nothing scientific) :
      24Mb/s Connect on router
20 Mb/s speed test wired on router (connected to master socket on ground floor)
16 Mb/s speed test on wifi via main router ... using laptop on top floor.
8 Mb/s speed test on wifi via booster ... placed on middle floor, half way between main router and laptop.

I'd even considered turning the wifi off on the main router and using the booster for extending the Devolo Wifi, but then it's another device to be powered up.

Ideally I'd have been happier being offered an update to the new Hub102 router, from my old F@ST2304

Sky offers a free wireless booster as well as half price broadband

Both methods of connecting outlined in the instructions book did not work for me. In the end I used a browser to get into the router, found the IP address of the booster and then entered the address in a browser which connected to the booster. The configuration then worked as per the instructions. This may help someone who finds themselves in the same position that I was in.

I now get a full signal all round the house having sited the booster upstairs, the signal stretches to the room downstairs that was giving me a problem.

There are quite a few with your router who have had them replaced. Although it was supposed to be Wireless N when it was introduced, it gives nothing like N speeds. I would get on to them again if I were you and tell them you are still not happy with the wireless performance, tell them you want a N class router. You are better doing it by the Help Request function or the Official forum, so that you have a written record of what happens.

Not sure how this has happened...

My parents have a old Sagem router and they have poor reception in their victorian house. I thought i try ordering them a wireless booster.
Everything went fine and to my amazement they got a email saying a new Sky hub is on the way (i assume this is the sky router SR101 or 102???)

Is this normal? and will they get charged (they are worried as they are pensioners). Reading on here they normally send ppl a sky router SR101 or 102? wait for you to identify any wireless black spots and THEN you are eligible for a wireless booster?

If they have the old non N Sagem then it will be replaced foc by the latest Hub, the SR102. If it still does not give suitable wireless distribution you can then apply for a booster. You can't do this until at least 7 days after setting up the Hub.

Yes its a wireless G router. So i can be sure my parents will not be charged for this?

I should check the thread about SR102 it might have good wireless coverage and no need for a booster.

Yes, there is no charge provided you go through the correct channel. Many are having problems claiming the booster, including my self. There is a world record thread on the Official Sky forum concerning this -
Free wifi booster - Sky Community

The SR102 is Sky's best router to date.

Sadly it isn't the best router on the market.

Sky Fibre Unlimited Pro: Connected at 80,000 kbps / 20,000 kbps
Previous ADSL2+ Speed 19999 kbps 1153 kbps, Line Attenuation 17.5 db 6.9 db, Noise Margin 7.5 dB 8.7 dB

Provided they have adapters which are compatible with Wireless N, they should see a difference. If they only have wireless G devices, set the Wireless mode on the router to 54g Performance.
