Do you have an alternate USB port you could use, maybe on your TV. You alternate would be to buy one of these - Black Universal 3.1A - 15W - 5V Dual USB Rapid Mains Charger Plug Adapter Wall charger for Apple iPad Mini/4/3/2/1, Samsung Galaxy Note 2 10.1, Galaxy Tab 7.0/7.0 Plus/10.1, Lenovo IdeaTab S2110A/S2109A, aPad/ePad Android Tablet PC , TomTom, Garmin, The only drawback is that you would need another power outlet, but you would need that anyway with the older type.

Re: New Mini WiFi adaptor from Sky

The new Mini-WiFi adaptor will ONLY work on the DRX89x range of STBs at the present time.

It isn't just that it takes the power from the USB port, but it also needs the firmware update to support the device.

Perhaps if you ask in a new thread, someone may be interested in swapping it for the older WiFi adaptor with you. The Mini WiFi adaptor will connect at up to 300mbps on either the 5GHz or 2.4GHz channels, where the old one only connects on the 2.4GHz channels. I don't know at what speed though.

When will the firmware update be release for the Pace, Samsung and Amstrad DRX780 STBS? I do not know. It was scheduled for release in Autumn 2013. So far there have been no signs of it though.

I didn't think the firmware would matter Scubbie, its an ethernet to wireless converter which should work without drivers. Or is there something special about this adapter?

Re: New Mini WiFi adaptor from Sky

I read it as NightHawk55 had received the Mini WiFi adaptor. This being the case yes he does need an STB with the correct firmware installed as well.

If it is the WiFi Adaptor (not the Mini one), then that will plug into any LAN port and can be used without any issues.

This Mini WiFi adaptor only has a USB port. There is no 2nd connector to supply power or a separate LAN port.

Thanks for that Scubbie, I did not realize it did not have a network port, I thought it was powered by USB only.

Re: New Mini WiFi adaptor from Sky

      No worries.

Connecting it up is really easy when the right firmware is installed though.

The full instructions are under the lid of the packaging that the adaptor comes in.

Re: New Mini WiFi adaptor from Sky

Shouldn't Sky have some note on the device that it can only be used on specific models. Many users could be wasting their money buying one.

Re: New Mini WiFi adaptor from Sky

IIRC the offer made it clear at the time that you needed a DRX89x STB.

I don't know if the latest firmware on the DRX595 supports this device, but otherwise you do need a firmware starting with 'R007' or later.

Re: New Mini WiFi adaptor from Sky

I took the metal shield off mine, the chip is an Atheros AR9374X-BL3D. There doesn't seem to be any windows drivers.

Seems taking the shield off has damaged it, doesn't show up in device manager now, ah well I've taken one for the team.
