      It looks like the St Elsie marketing endemic in financial services and energy supply has hit ISPs - a sign of the times etc. etc. - and we shall have to change broadband supplier every year to get a good deal just like we have to change savings account to get a good interest rate when the bonus period ends. There must be a better way...

      No, and that's my bug bare as I don't see why I should have to be a sports subscriber just to get the same deals other new customers are now getting regardless of if they watch sports or not.

      Just done a comparison between what I pay now with Sky (unlimited broadband, line rental + anytime calls) and Plus net (I'm not including TV here as I'm on the old Sky EE + Sky Movies):

      Sky = 7.50 + 14.50 + 5.00 = 27.00 a month + I'm paying for 0845 calls
      PN = 4.99 (includes a 12 month 5 discount) + 14.50 + 5.00 + 0.99 (caller ID) 0845 numbers are included = 25.48

      PN are also offering 70 cashback via Quidco

      Having sky sports makes no difference. You only get the deal if you are moving to sky broadband as well as having sky sports. Even if you are out of your 12 mths bb deal you don't qualify.

      Well, worked out.
      You have forgotten the 5.99 p&p for their router or 2.70 for sky
      But, Plusnet I hear let you use your own router too.
      See plusnet are offering 12 mths contracts now rather than 18.
      Plusnet is not available in my hometown of Gosport according to samknows, odd that.

      This is getting complicated. My understanding was '12 months free BB' applied to all ADSL Unlimited who took Sky Sports as well. Isn't that so?

      Nope, if you already have SkyBB then you dont qualify. You have to be moving to SkyBB and have Sky Sports. So only applies to existing Sky Sports subscribers who are moving their BB to Sky.

      Plusnet (which is part of BT) will not be listed as it is not an LLU.

      it may be referring to the your exchange being in a Plus Net 'low cost' area (where your exchange is either market 2 or 3), as PN charge more for people on market 1 exchanges where there's no LLU available.

      Gosport is a market 3 exchange so if you were considering switching to Plusnet I would suggest checking availability using their website: Plusnet | Fast, cheap, reliable Broadband and Phone packages

      Re: Sky offers free broadband as battle with BT intensifies

      I had no idea they were part of BT, bit of a downer that really.
      I remember many years back a lot of unhappy Metronet customers had to move to plusnet.

      Must admit I thought samknows was the defacto list for all the isps at your exchange.

      Im sticking to Sky, no chance of leaving. Had great service over the years with skyBB and TV, too much to lose moving.
      I love my sky sports, cricket, football, F1, skyhd+, catchup, skygo, beta testing ...

      Always nice to work out the competition though, always works in your favour when asking for a new deal
