Fibre is due at the holdi household around the end of the year.
I'm on free unlimited until then, so this doesn't really effect me at the moment.
However, when it does the current deals from Sky will make me go elsewhere.

      I don't blame you.

Price wise there are better options available elsewhere.

Re: Sky offers free broadband as battle with BT intensifies

As a Sky Sports customer on Unlimited ADSL it seems I will benefit with 'free' BB for 12 months. However Sky (and BT) are increasing prices across the whole package and the best I can hope for is neutrality which will see my overall monthly payment unchanged for this coming year. The problem is that overall payment is still too high and BT's intervention hasn't changed anything despite BT's claims to the opposite.

From a straight commercial standpoint Sky's decision to offer advantages to Unlimited ADSL users makes a lot of sense. They represent a large (maybe largest) class of users unlike fibre which is a sideline. Unlimited ADSL users are probably the one's who might be tempted by BT fibre offers (at a now significant increase in cost compared to free Unlimited).

Re: Sky offers free broadband as battle with BT intensifies

At the end of the day, Brian, this seems to be just a short term discount (rather than a move designed as part of a long term strategy to become market leader). It's so low key that there isn't a press release about it on the corporate website. From what I've read, even the staff didn't seem to officially know much (if anything) about it yesterday, other than what customers were reporting from reading the article in a newspaper and on thinkbroadband (which has links to the offers)! With respect, it seems like a bit of a limp response (both in terms of what it is and how it's been publicised) from a major player in the communications company. Maybe they don't want to be number 1 in the market both in terms of customer numbers/market share and unbeatable pricing?!

I think that this is a finger in the leaking dike offer to prevent a flood of leavers while giving Sky a breathing space to plan a more permanent repair.

Re: Sky offers free broadband as battle with BT intensifies

BT have already upped their offer by increasing the amount of Sainsbury's vouchers you get if you sign up as a new customer if you order within the next week or so.

thinkbroadband :: Summer Special from BT as price war hots up

Just called Sky to check I'm out of contract for broadband and calls (which I am) but they can't/won't offer me anything at all, which is the final nail in Sky's coffin as far as I'm concerned.

Go to PlusNet - I calculate that over the 18 month contract I'm saving 100 over my 40/10 Sky contract or 280 like for like (i.e 80/20 from Sky vs PlusNet)

Well I think that's the straw...

As a current Fibre Unlimited subscriber I will actually get more and save by moving to BT (after discounts).
(excuse poor formatting, but thought it might be useful)
      Code:
       BT 1 (40/10) BT 2 (80/20) Sky (40/10)
Cost	*Months	Cost	*Months	Cost	*Months
      Intro	16	3	20	3	0	0
      Actual	23	15	26	15	20	18
      Install	30 0 0
      Line	211 211 179
      Total	634 661 539

      Discounts
      TCP*	80 80 0
      Voucher	100 100 0
      Total	180 180 0

      18m:	454 481 539
BT also gives: Better router, widespread wifi hotspots, Free footie
...unless I've missed something - in which case, please do tell

      *TopCashBack - expires tomorrow.
