Sky serves up a seasonal stocking filler for Sky+ app users this Christmas

12th December: Following several updates to its On Demand service this year, Sky is serving up a seasonal stocking filler to millions of Sky+ app users with the addition of On Demand listings. This Christmas it’s going to be even easier to plan what to watch with the flexibility of being able to tee-up whole box sets and shows to start downloading onto a compatible Sky+HD set top box from anywhere in the house via iPhone, iPad, iPad Mini or iPod touch.

From Modern Family to Mad Men, Spongebob Squarepants to Show Me Your Wardrobe, Sky customers can browse through a vast library of around 6,000 hours of the latest and greatest series and shows via the Sky+ app, and with one click set them to download to their Sky+HD set-top box to watch whenever it suits them, at no extra monthly cost. The new feature gives people even more ways to explore and choose what to watch, whether in front of the TV or while they are elsewhere in the house.

The addition of On Demand listings is third major update of the year for the Sky+ app, and gives people another great option for accessing the expanded On Demand offering now available to Sky customers. Earlier in the year Sky added new Catch Up TV to the platform, alongside the existing TV library of thousands of hours of TV shows and movies, offering the most recent shows from Sky channels, BBC iPlayer, ITV Player and Demand 5, with access to 4oD coming in the Spring as Sky+ keeps getting better.

So whether it’s to get up to speed with an award-winning box set that everyone’s talking about, catch up on last night’s episode of X Factor, or to sit back and enjoy a blockbuster movie – Sky customers can use these services quickly and easily to watch what they want, when they want.

Luke Bradley-Jones, Director of TV Products, Sky said: “This great new feature capitalises on the iPad or iPhone touchscreen to make it easier than ever to browse and discover something new to watch, regardless of whether you are near your Sky+HD box or elsewhere in your home. So when you’ve got a house-full this Christmas, rather than interrupt the kids’ cartoons or the big match, you can now browse through the On Demand movie listings from the kitchen whilst making dinner, and find the perfect film to watch later on.

“This innovative new feature gives people another great option to discover and plan great TV to watch – and along with the other updates to our Sky+ On Demand service this year – gives millions of Sky customers the most comprehensive and easy-to-use way of enjoying TV on their terms.”

Launched in 2009, the Sky+ app has been downloaded more than 5 million times and ranks in the Top 20 Entertainment apps in the App Store. The award winning* Sky+ sits alongside a wide range of leading mobile apps available to Sky customers at no extra charge, which also includes the award-winning** mobile TV service Sky Go.

All people need to do to enjoy this latest feature of the Sky+ app is to connect their compatible Sky+HD box to the same WiFi network as their Apple device (iPhone, iPad, iPad Mini or iPod touch***).

Shhh.... let's not mention the lack of Android support for these new features.

Thought so. Could be useful though for people with tablets & smartphones running an unsupported OS/version of an OS and also people with a computer but no tablet/smartphone at all. I'm sure they won't be forgotten about in the long run!
