Re: BBC iPlayer comes to Sky+

I did log into my account to see what one of the 2TB boxes would cost, but it was just getting silly. It was going to be 49 for the box, 60 for the setup fee, then they wanted me to also sign up to a Multiroom subscription at 10.25 p/m. I've absolutely no use for a Multiroom subscription, so why on earth would I want to sign up to that? I'd happily have signed up for another 12 months if they had offered the box for 49, but I'm not paying through the nose just to get one.
Speak to cancellations, and get the multiroom free for a year if possible, they did it for me. Be polite though.

Thanks for the suggestion, but it's more a case of not wanting multiroom as I couldn't even use it due to the fact we only have one telly in the house!

The extra storage space on a newer STB would be the driving force behind me wanting one, as the space on the 320GB drive does tend to get used up fairly quickly these days.

I got the Sky+HD box when it was 160GB. I know you're pain about space getting used up. Believe me!

Technically you both own your Sky+ HD STBs. There is nothing preventing you from buying a new one off eBay or visiting a local 2nd hand shop and getting a newer model with a larger drive, or installing a larger drive in the STB that you have.

If you were to use the ExPVR software, you should be able to copy the contents from the drive in your old STB to the new one. This should prevent you from losing anything which you may wish to keep.

I know. But the one thing that can stop you is cost and as much as I love Sky I do like paying my utility bills. Also I'm nervy about tinkering with my Sky+ box and adding drives, I always think that if you tinker with things you can mess it up. I know me and I would mess it up so if I can get a deal through Sky I usually go for that.

I have no problem with that, but I am suggesting an alternative option which you may wish to consider.

As for a 2nd hand Amstrad DRX890 or DRX895, these are available from 19 in some places.

A second hand DRX890 for only 19!?! Blimey! Well you live and learn.

You will need to look around.

One local Ca$h Converters is selling them for between 30-50. A friend else where in this country has found another selling them for 19.

As for eBay, it really depends on who is bidding at the time.

Re: BBC iPlayer comes to Sky+

Looks like there has been a slight change to iPlayer. HD selections are next to SD selections in each of the categories so you can see instantly which version is available rather than going into BBC HD for the non BBC1 shows.
