BBC iPlayer on Sky Catch Up - As From 30th October

A lot of you have probably already seen the adverts on TV but recently the message is being promoted about iPlayer being launched on Catch Up 30th October. Although there is no official word yet, but the adverts are a good indicator it is going to happen.

      For one, I cannot wait.

Re: BBC iPlayer on Sky Catch Up - As From 30th October

The BBCiPlayer icon in the On Demand Catch Up section now also says "Coming 30th October", so I'd take that as further confirmation. It'll be great to finally have BBCiPlayer on the Sky HD box, as the download feature will be a major bonus, compared to the usual "streaming" option on the website, so should be fantastic. Very much looking forward to it.

Have one question for those that have been testing it. On the BBCiPlayer desktop app, you can set a series link, so as new episodes become available, it will download them. Will that feature be available on the Sky platform? (not a major deal breaker, as I tend to use iPlayer to watch something I either missed, or couldn't record if it clashes with something else, but the ability to catch a full series would be great).

I haven't seen any evidence of a series link facility during my use of the BBC iPlayer on Sky+HD as a beta tester. This is a facility I too would like to see though!

As previously stated bu me, I am hoping to see an official launch announcement from Sky and/or BBC on or before BSkyB Q1 results which are out on 1 November.

Re: BBC iPlayer on Sky Catch Up - As From 30th October

Well the updated caption in the BBC iPlayer icon has changed to saying it'll arrive on October 30th so that's pretty much as good as an announcement. What I want to know is if it'll be midnight or a specific time during the day?

And I also don't need any extra boxes under the TV. DVD recorder and a Sky+ box and that's it and the TV has a Freeview tuner. I think that's me sorted!

You're missing the a PVR with a built in HD freeview tuner & DVD or Blu-Ray recorder.

No need for PVR here. My TV with built in HD Freeview only needs a USB stick stuffed in the side . Good party trick if you like showing off is to ask guests if they have seen what the latest in HD Personal Video Recorders looks like and then just whip out the 10 stick .

I definitely need to change my DVD recorder as it's an analogue tuner and I need one with Freeview HD

So how do you record stuff off the TV then.

And in a separate question do we have any idea what time October 30th the iPlayer will go live?

I don't know about other manufacturers but Sony make a TV which is capable of recording to and playing from a USB connection. This includes USB sticks and HDDs.

It will probably be in the early hours of the morning.
