I always prefer to search for a specific show by entering the first few letters.
I just find it quicker, especially if i'm not sure of it's genre category.
Feel free to grump as much as you want - but if you want to search for a specific show just type the first few letters in the main search and hit the On Demand tab. All the BBC content is there now too .

Hmm, that on demand tab on the search page completely passed me by.

I'll be playing mr facepalm for a while now...

I said as much on another thread. I use it but at first you don't realise that when you search you can go by EPG, planner and then by what's in the players. That needs to be made more obvious somehow.

On that search page you can also put in Genre, so you can do what I wanted to do and review all programmes on Kids' channels On Demand. Now to get Five to load their Milkshake programming...

Would still be nice to have an All button when viewing an Individual program, but iPlayer is a really excellent addition.

Looks like the shelf life of programmes is 7 days from original broadcast, same as the online version. It would be nice if downloaded programmes could be extended by 30 days like they do in the iPlayer desktop, ie you have 7 days to download but then more time to watch it.

But there are some older episodes of certain shows like New Tricks, The Thick Of It, Strictly Come Dancing that get slightly longer times on iPlayer as part of a series catch-up.

I have found that some will stay on your STB a little longer if you download them.

Those ones will only stay available for downloading for 7 days, after which you will no longer be able to.

I did download something the other day which specifically advised me that after a specific date it would automatically be removed.

I downloaded the Panorama program on JS and it was marked for deletion Monday 29th, it just disappeared completely. ie, it didn't go into the Deleted items folder. So it looks like if you download something from the iPlayers and want to keep it, you have to get it on to your own media pretty quickly.

It's much like the online version, once it reaches the expiry date you can't watch it only they have the control through the Sky+ box and can get rid of it. It's like that with all shows downloaded through Sky Catch-Up isn't it?

Re: BBC iPlayer on Sky Catch Up - As From 30th October

Within the details of the recording that you download is an expiry date. This system has been used by Sky since Anytime+ was first added. It has not changed.

What has changed is that now the other providers have access to be able to add their content to the list of available programmes and films which we as customers can download.

Primarily the content goes into their section, but some of it is also available in the Library too.
