Re: Everything you need to know about the Sky Hub SR101

Knowing that someone has hacked the encryption for the original Netgear router, which will give someone the original password, I would be very tempted to either use the new SSID and password with the Sky Hub SR101 or change it to something completely different.

I think the original Netgear came set up for WEP too. This being the case, the new Sky Hub uses WPA2-AES by default. This is far more secure and I would advise against using WEP as it too is no longer secure.

Can you tell me about this Low power mode that SKY hub has? Is this merely switching the router into ADSL2 L2 mode?
Or does the router genuinely go into a standby mode and wakes up when it receives a request to transmit/receive data
      over ethernet or wireless?

Mine is on 24/7 and doesn't go into standby. IMHO it would be a bad idea to disable something like the WiFi.

My TP-Link switches also claim to go into a power saving mode when there is reduced activity.

This makes me think that the power saving is purely to do with reduced electricity consumption when the traffic is reduced.

      "MIMO aerials"

Would this device transmit a stronger wifi signal than my F@ST2504n?
I am borderline signal reception in the shed and would like a stronger signal out there

      cheers, Rob

Re: Everything you need to know about the Sky Hub SR101

It would be hard to be 100% certain on this without trying it in your specific circumstances. Whilst the initial reports indicated a small improvement, since the release many have questioned this claim.

Personally I would suggest that setting up a WiFi Extender would be a safer bet.

Your reference to the MIMI Aerials indicates that you may be thinking about opening up your router to fit your own. This might be a good thing to do with the Sagem 2504N, but isn't something I personally know much about. As for fitting your own aerials inside the Sky Hub SR101, I would advise against this. The aerial/s is/are hidden behind a board inside and you would likely break the plastic clips holding it in place.

I had no intention of modding on this occasion I will however look into setting up an extender after reading this info

Many thanks for your help. Rob

Re: Everything you need to know about the Sky Hub SR101

      Hi all.

This is a great website, very informative.

Quick question, is it possible for me to change the default dns servers on my sr101?

      Any help would be great.

      Thanks Richard.

No, this is not possible with any of the routers running Sky firmware. All you can do is set the DNS servers on your devices and this will over-ride the router settings.

      Thanks for the quick reply.

That's disappointing but I expected as much, hopefully someone will figure out a workaround.

Im too hoping for a work around, i think isitme was working on this with the old n router but because of MER there was problems. As i too have now managed to wangle this new router from sky i was somewhat dusapointed to see there was no option to change the dns servers... Stil 90......

Please if any one knows of a way to change these:-)
