Launch of the Sky+HD 2TB Box

On Tuesday 2nd October we will see the end of the Sky+HD 1TB box replaced by Sky’s best TV box ever, the new Sky+HD 2TB box. This Retains all the features of the current 1TB but provides customers with 6 x more storage than a standard Sky+HD box – all at no extra cost.

See the 2TB Sky+HD STB on the official website.

What is different about the Sky+HD 2TB box?

The Sky+HD 2TB box gives you the ultimate TV viewing experience. It is replacing the Sky+HD 1TB box, giving you all the same great features but with more storage. You get 1.5TB for personal storage, giving you a recording capacity of up to 350 hours in HD or up to a massive 1180 hours of standard definition TV. So you don't need to worry about running out of space. You also get 500GB for a selection of on demand TV. Plus you'll have plenty of flexibility to watch your favourite TV when you want to with Sky+ functionality as standard.

Can I upgrade my existing box to a Sky+HD 2TB?

Yes, it's quick and easy to upgrade your existing box to a Sky+HD 2TB box, and if you currently have a Sky+ box, you may not even need a visit from an engineer. The box costs from just 49 for existing Sky TV customers upgrading to the HD Pack or taking a new Sky Multiroom subscription (standard set-up costs apply. Existing Sky+ or Sky+HD customers may be able to choose self set-up for 15).

How much TV can I store on my Sky+HD 2TB box?

With 1.5TB for personal storage you can record and store up to 1180 hours of standard definition TV or 350 hours of high definition TV on your Sky+HD 2TB box. You also get 500GB of space for a selection of on demand TV.

What accessories can I get for my Sky+HD 2TB box?

Your Sky+HD 2TB box will come with a Terabyte Remote Control. You can buy additional remote controls, as well as a TV link to let you watch the same Sky channel on another TV and a Wireless Connector if you want to connect to On Demand wirelessly.

How are they going to go about doing a 2tb setup
      2tb and 1tb for anytime?

Its a bit underhanded if its 1.5tb for tv and 500gb reserved for sky's use

re: Launch of the Sky+HD 2TB Box

I've managed to find a picture of one on Pocket Lint's site.

Glad to see they kept the old design of the old 1TB one. I think it's one of the nicest looking Sky boxes they've used. I bought my 1TB box from a online satellite retailer just under 2 years ago, has it wasn't much more than getting it from Sky, plus it would have been inconvenient to say the least to have got it from Sky and then needed it plugged into the phone line for 12 months.

When my current one packs up I would get the 2TB, but for me the 1 TB one is more than enough for my usage even with over 90 percent of the stuff I record been in HD.

Sky introduces new 2TB Sky+HD box, to coincide with catch-up TV service launch - Pocket-lint

Based on the quoted figures for recording times I would suggest that 1.5TB is reserved for personal recordings. The remaining 387GB would be for the system (EPG, Showcase).
