Do you have to wait for a bill before you know if its actually setup right on your account? It shows the payment for me, but no other sign that it's for paying 12 months up front...

When I paid upfront in 2011, they took the payment by card and then each month they charged the line rental at the standard amount and offset it with a credit of the same amount. So it equalised out each month. This happened even when the standard line rental went up during the upfront period. Simple.

When I paid updront this year, they took the 119.40 payment by card and then I got a 36 credit to my Sky account a few days later. Each month they now charge the line rental at the standard amount 12.25 and offset it with a 9.25 credit - leaving a net amount for line rental each month of 3 (but of course I have had that back already in the form of a one-off 36 credit at the start of the arrangement).

No idea why it now requires such complex and creative accounting!

And I'm now wondering what will happen when line rental goes up on 1 December...

So does the 119.40 go off your bill equally over the 12 months? Or does it just mean you don't pay anything to sky until thats used up, then you pay the bill as normal, but with the reduced price?

You have to pay up the full amount in advance by credit or debit card . Thereafter the full monthly amount is charged to your account but is immediately credited back.

You can see if it has been applied by looking at the amount you are to be charged next month, it should be reduced by the amount of the phone rental.

Mine was billed like that the first year I paid upfront, but this year the billing is being done differently (as noted previously).

Re: Sky Line Rental Increases For Existing Customers From December?

I just have a feeling that while they're letting us all pay 119.40 (eventually), come billing date we might just find nothing has changed with our billing, and that money just goes off our account. That wouldn't surprise me (and judging by sky's forums, isn't that uncommon, even before Sky got confused about if this is an available product)

Standard business as usual approach as found in many large organisations then - left hand and right hand completely unco-ordinated and travelling in opposite directions!
