Let The New EPG Rollout Begin

Update: The new EPG is currently being rolled out, not all the features may work immediately, and will be added as and when. But at least it is on its way to you now.

Further to our thread, Catch Up TV On Your EPG Very Soon Sky have released the following on their website.

We’re updating some of our Sky+HD boxes, so you might notice some new features on your Sky Guide soon. In particular, we’re adding an Undelete feature, which promises to make accidentally deleting a show from your Planner a thing of the past. Also, Sky Anytime and Anytime+ will become On Demand, so there’s one convenient place to find the TV shows you want when you want them.

Plus, we’re getting your Sky+HD box ready for Catch Up TV, one more way to make sure you never miss the shows that matter to you on Sky, ITV Player, Demand 5 and later on, BBC iPlayer.

      Undelete

We’re adding a new feature to Sky+ called Undelete, so you’ll never miss a TV show because you've accidentally deleted it from your Planner. All deleted shows will be added to the Deleted tab and you’ll be able to restore them to your Planner or delete them permanently from there. The Deleted tab will be found to the left of your Planner’s All tab.
There’s no need to worry that you’ll fill up your hard disk with this new feature. The oldest items will be deleted automatically and permanently if you need more space for new recordings.

On Demand and Catch Up TV

Sky Anytime and Anytime+ will soon appear as On Demand in your Sky Guide, making it simpler for you to find the shows you want when you want them.

You’ll find great boxsets of some of our most popular shows, like Stella, Mad Dogs and An Idiot Abroad, as well as top shows shown exclusively on Sky Atlantic, available to download at the touch of a button 24 hours a day, all at no extra monthly cost.

Also, we’ll soon be launching Catch Up TV, so you’ll be able to get the best shows from the last seven days on Sky channels, ITV Player, Demand 5 and shortly after launch, BBC iPlayer, through your Sky+HD box. You won’t need to gather around your laptop to recap the week’s best shows. They’ll be available to enjoy on your TV, in the comfort of your living room.

      Other updated features

We’re updating some of the other great features on your Sky Guide. You’ll notice a new Store tab where you’ll easily be able to find movies to rent – from recent action-packed blockbusters to golden all-time classics – to watch when it suits you.

You’ll also see the Docs tab moved to the middle of your Sky Guide, to help you find amazing factual TV shows more quickly.

It’ll be easier to get the right help when using your Sky Guide’s fantastic features too. We've tailored Help menus to specific Sky Guide functions, like On Demand, Box Office, Parental Settings and others, to get you going if you're ever unsure of what to do.

In addition, if you’d like to disable your iPad's remote control features (available through the Sky+ app for iPad), you'll be able to do so from the Sky Guide’s Parental section.

Even more exciting new features for Sky+

So this is not related to the "Rumour Alert" thread?

Well here's hoping Sky bother to reply to your email - though are they likely to be telling you if they haven't announced anything themselves yet? Or is the email to your own Deep Throat ?

Well, at least they know what we know now, and so a denial or no comment should be coming through, hopefully.

Also, they have advance warning of what we intend to publish, I guess. Rather than a complete surprise. The only snag is though, it has only come from one source, which is why we are treading carefully at the moment.

Ha! You not been watching latest episodes of The Newsroom then ? Second source only needed if first was obtained through phone-hacking .

Re: Let The New EPG Rollout Begin

It has been confirmed that some people outside the Beta Test group have been receiving the latest firmware update from Sky. The newest version number is 53.70.04 and has been working on the whole very well for the beta testers.

As previously, please do not attempt to perform a forced update to get this version. Sky select a group of STBs and roll the update to them. Gradually it will be rolled out to all Amstrad DRX890 and DRX895 STBs. Once this has been completed the forced update will work correctly for any which have missed it.

What will you notice that is different?

Basically all that is explained in the first post in this thread.

Anytime+ has been rebranded to be called 'On Demand'.

Anything which ends up in the 'Deleted' section will not be stacked. This is intentional. If you don't perform any house keeping and remove the content from the 'Deleted' section, don't worry as it is marked as clear to be recorded over. However should you 'Permanently remove' items from that section, then they will be gone forever, or at least until they are repeated on TV.

It is also fun being able to delete something on purpose, only to restore it later.

Catch up TV will be enabled at a later date. Initially just the ITV Player though, with Demand Five and BBC iPlayer added later. These are performed via a simple over the air enable, rather than a full firmware update. More on this at a later date.

Unfortunately we still have no confirmed roll out plans for the other Sky+ HD STBs.

The official announcement is suggesting only iPlayer will not be present at launch of Catch-up.

Also, we’ll soon be launching Catch Up TV, so you’ll be able to get the best shows from the last seven days on Sky channels, ITV Player, Demand 5 and shortly after launch, BBC iPlayer, through your Sky+HD box
