I have read that 5.1 is possible on the Amstrad 89x boxes with a software update, but don't know how true this is.

Re: Let The New EPG Rollout Begin

I wonder who is arguing about this?

The SkyHD STB has the hardware to support 5.1 Surround sound over the HDMI. From my understanding the DRX890/DRX895 don't have the hardware.

There has been no denial from Sky whether it will be possible or not. I can only assume at this point that is may be something which they are still working on, but can't confirm this.

Interestingly there is not specific mention which I can currently see regarding 5.1 over HDMI for the latest 2TB STB to be released.

There was a post from Sky over on DS a while ago mentioning all the new features coming "soon" via software updates. There was mention of planner sharing etc. and I'm sure it mentioned 5.1 over HDMI. I 'll need to try to find it.

5.1 over HDMI was indeed mentioned at one point, but it has become a quiet topic.

Re: Let The New EPG Rollout Begin

To be fair there are a lot of things which puzzle me when it comes to any AV kit. So many new items do not have the full potential that many people will be interested in and fall somewhat short of the mark.

My own TV has the Dolby Digital Plus Pulse symbol on it. It can receive Freeview HD channels, with their DD sound broadcasts. It even says when it can get 5.1 sound. However the TV itself only has 2 speakers and any output via the Scart or TOSLink is not in 5.1 surround sound, only good old stereo.

Similar arguments could be aimed at the new Sky Hub SR101. I am hoping, but can't confirm, that Sky are developing the next model already which will have many of the features that are missing from this one (i.e. 300mb/s WiFi, 1Gbit LAN, USB)

Re: Let The New EPG Rollout Begin

There are several people posting about it over on the Sky forums too.

They appear to be happy with it. The unhappy ones are those who are still waiting.

Just a polite reminder folks: It will arrive automatically during the early hours. Please do not try to force the update at the moment as it isn't on the DR stream.

The Amstrad DRX890 & DRX895 DR stream is for R005.053.70.05P, with R005.053.70.11P being rolled out to some people now.
