      Sky Line Rental Changes

The cost of Line Rental (LR) for new LR customers will increase on 1st September 2012 from 12.25 to 14.50 a month.

Existing LR customers will, however, not be given a price rise.

Sky Talk Freetime will be withdrawn from sale on 27th August 2012 and replaced with a new product called Sky Talk Weekends.

Free weekend calls to UK landlines (same prefix/duration restrictions as current). Existing Sky Talk Freetime customers will be unaffected.

Everything we received as a brief, is above mate.

It looks like they have gone?

Although it doesn't affect anyone who currently has it by the looks of things.

More of an incentive for new customers to pay the extra fiver I guess for free all the time?

      Re: Sky Line Rental Changes

Hmmm.... so assuming you have access to both and excluding any initial discounts, I could have (if I was buying today and not already an existing customer)...

Sky Fibre Pro + Monthly Line Rental + Talk Unlimited for 49.50 per month or

BT Infinity 2 Unlimited + Monthly Line Rental + Unlimited Anytime Calls for 45.50 per month (or the equivalent of 41.65 per month if I choose Line Saver).

Is it me or is it unusual for Sky to be fairly uncompetitive on a product? Anyone would think they don't want many Fibre Pro customers...

Well BT don't have to pay the rental of the fibre from themselves technically whereas Sky have to pay BT to use it.

For the sake of 4 per month saving, its not really make or break.

For what Sky give you, ie totally unlimited and no (intended) throttling etc as well as all the on demand stuff coming up etc its a no brainer to stay with Sky IMO

You can always pay Sky Line Rental in advance for 12 months and save a little more that way?

Either way it don't affect me, as I don't have Sky LT nor is there any chance of getting Fibre anytime soon where we are.

      True.

Oh I don't know, it's the equivalent of a month for free over the course of a year.

I was told by a Sky CS when I enquired about upfront line rental recently that they no longer offer it as a payment option. Best I give them another call methinks!

If they don't, saving almost 95 a year seems a no brainer to me...

...especially as I'm not a big downloader so I assume the throttling wouldn't affect me.

      Re: Sky Line Rental Changes

Pretty sure you could wangle a deal out of cancellations, if you say you are going to BT Broadband, just be prepared to cancel then uncancel within the 30 days etc if you call their bluff.

Loads of reports of half price line rental etc as a sweetener.

Also, BT is 18 month contract I think, plus what we don't yet already know, the new streaming stuff yet to be launched, may or may not be available to non Sky BB customers.

Either way its your choice, good luck.

      Re: Sky Line Rental Changes

To be clear, I am likely to stay with Sky and upgrade to Standard Fibre in March when my contract expires (when I can negotiate free installation and use BT as a bargaining chip), especially as I don't think we need the speed of Fibre Pro for standard family use.

For this thread I was just musing over how the price increase could make you think twice about moving to Fibre Pro if you were a fairly "standard" user and how that is unsual as I have always found Sky to be competitive on Broadband/Talk, which it still is, just not necessarily on the current "top" product. I guess if you are a heavy downloader then it's a no brainer, even with the extra cost.

Have you seen BT normal unlimited broadband? 26 a month + Line Rental?!?! That's the same price as their basic Infinity product!
