      Sky's SR101 Hub Wireless Specifications

Although we have known for ages the specifications of the Sky SR101 Hub, we declined to post any details so as Sky could completely trust any of their chosen Beta Testers, and so that none of them could be accused of leaking any of the details / specifications etc

However, 2 things have since happened.

      1) A member of SkyUser was sent one of the new hubs, we are not sure if this was an error, or if infact Sky were dropshipping them to see if they received any customer service issues whilst out in the field etc, which is highly likely.

      2) The full Wifi Speciifications were certified May 22nd 2012 and there is a PDF of the full specs etc

Now, since that both of the above completely expose what the new hub looks like, as well as the Wireless Specifications,it seems pretty pointless to censor any further information, as obviously it is now out in the public domain.

      So without further ado,

Here's the previously published, nice little photo of the SR101 Router / Hub

And here are the Certifified Wifi Specifications etc

      Special Features

Re: Sky's SR101 Hub Wireless Specifications

This is the confusing piece: It only appear to be broadcasting on a single channel, like the Sagem 2504N. The signal is a little better though from what others have reported.

Does it also mean it couldn't cope with a 100Mbs fibre line?

Is this router better better than the 2504N and if so - what way?

Re: Sky's SR101 Hub Wireless Specifications

The Hub does work on the 80/20 FTTC connection. I do not think it would cope too well with the prospective increase to 200mb for FTTC though.

I don't know what Sky are testing on the FTTP product. Someone did state that they had been supplied a Thomson router but nothing has been mentioned on this topic for a while now on Sky's FTTP testing.

I would hope that Sky will be developing another Sky Hub which would work on these connections.

Looking at the specs, there isn't a great deal of improvement. Performance wise though it does appear to be better.

Significantly the WiFi signal is a little stronger than the 2504N and its ability to choose the best channel has been tweaked.

There are a few other aspects which will be just as annoying though.

Re: Sky's SR101 Hub Wireless Specifications

I expect to receive the new hub when I switch to Sky Fibre once my exchange/cabinet is enabled (hopefully, by the end of September). Really like the physical appearance of the hub, but disappointed it is not dual band - I will probably connect my Apple Airport Express to the hub & use in bridge mode.

Does anyone know if there is anything 'different' about this new hub to any other router? What purpose does the Sky+HD light on the front of the hub serve? Is it purely cosmetic? Does it light up when you control your Sky box via the IPad app?
