Sky 3d to follow one of nature's greatest journeys

1 x 50' show filmed in amazing 3D, allowing viewers to experience this phenomenon like never before

Follows animals in their migration across the Serengeti plains in an emotional and personally engaging story

Sky 3D has commissioned a show from Electric Sky that will put audiences right in the middle of the herd in one of the most spectacular movements of animals on the planet.

THE WILDEBEEST MIGRATION follows the migration of some 1.5million wildebeest, zebra and thomson’s gazelles. The film follows the animals from the beginning of the year as they congregate at the southern fringe of the Serengeti to give birth, and sees the young calves in one of the most vulnerable stages of their lives as they learn to run as fast as their mothers and build up the strength to begin their epic journey.

The programme combines the epic scale of the animal’s migration, with the intimate and emotional details of individual animals caught up in a daily struggle to survive and complete their journey. There are moments of joy, horror, wonder and beauty; this is nature as it really is – an emotional and personally engaging story. Following key characters in the migration; the newborn Wildebeest; the hungry Lions, Leopards, Cheetah and hyena that prey on the herd and survive on the meat it supplies; the gangs of Crocodiles that infest the Mara River; the Vultures that circle overhead ever-watchful for the few unfortunates who’ll never make the journey alive, all the action is captured by the 3D cameras, so viewers from the comfort of their living room will feel like they’re travelling with the herd. Viewers will learn how the migration itself is the culmination of a chain reaction of events set in motion by the most powerful forces of nature – the climate.

Executive Producer for Sky 3D is Benedetta Pinelli. Andy Webb and David Pounds are Executive Producers for Electric Sky. Julian Thomas is the Producer/Director.

THE WILDEBEEST MIGRATION will TX in April 2012 on Sky 3D
