Only 2 Meg up and download is only 40 Meg. Only BT and the rest of ISP's will do 80/20 soon in April, Sky staying with 40/2.

There are plenty of rumours that Sky will be offering 80/20 in the future, just non official.

Cannot see Sky will rush into 80/20 until late 2013 more likely ? but who care ? as FTTC not available in my area

They can do it from launch, if they wanted to.

Pretty sure they are trialling it anyway with Sky employees already.

sky are already behind with getting FTTC out to the public so hopefully they will have a full range of packages available on launch. if they do have a 80/20 profile I might upgrade depending on the additional cost as my line is capable of 96/36

Are sky slow to the party or were they being practical and making sure thier systems had enough power to offer the speeds everyone expects from fibre and also that there would be enough fibre cabinets enabled in LLU exchanges to make it worth their while?

The consumer part of me says yes they were slow, but then would I have been happy to get it earlier but have problems BT and Virgin have in peak times and sky having to place speed restrictions. The I look at it from a commercial point of view, for sky to offer a low cost unlimited package with less issues.

I do hope sky offer a range of packages but for those expecting to get 80/20 for the same price I doubt that would happen its not just about the rental BTO charge but the increase in capacity sky would need to have. So then you ask would people pay for what could be a small increase?

      Examples

      40/2 for a monthly fee of 20pm
      40/10 for a fee of 22.50pm
      80/20 for a fee of 30pm

Dont forget these speeds are yet again " UP TO XX" it seems so far most people seem to get 35+meg due to the fact BTO increased the profile based on the 40/2 sky profile. Would you pay 30 for a line that can only get 63meg down and 13 up?

Personally for me, I would pay for an 80/20 service not becuase I want the "upto 80 meg" download but I would like the highest upload I can get. But if I was also paying the premium for the top variation of a sky fibre package I would expect equipment that allows me to take full advantage of those speeds right from start to finish and not be restricted by 10/100 connection.

We also don't know what other products and services sky will offer that will need such speeds both up and down. I am sure we will get the 80/20 speeds, when we will get it is the big question. A bit of me thinks the most logical would be when the current price freeze finishes add a few quid on or around the launch of Now TV. Like everything else so far Sky are playing its card close to its chest...

Probably a bit of both I expect. Also, I thought I read somewhere on here back when SBUF was announced that the Sky "suits" weren't convinced that there would be enough demand for SBUF (or something like that)?

Maybe the Sky "suits" all live in places where they already enjoy a decent download speed and think everyone else does too (and so can't believe anyone would need anything faster)?!
