Will these channels just require a freesat HD box as BBC HD and ITV1 HD do? I'm quite happy watching these on my Humax without shelling out extra for Sky HD.

I'm looking forward to BBC1 in HD too, sweet.

According to this site: Sky HD TV Channels - Superior viewing with Sky+HD - Join Online

Luxe TV HD, Channel 4 HD, BBC HD, ITV1 HD and Five HD are available without subscription. Channel 4 HD requires a viewing card. ITV1 HD is only available in England and Wales.
ITV2/3/4 HD on the other hand require a Sky subscription: http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/10963608

Although whether it requires the HD pack I don't know, although by the sound of it you probably will.

      Re: 44 HD channels

I just watching all channels in normal SD (not HD) as I refuse to pay sky 10 a month for HD because it only free on free to air channels
