Rumour: Changes to Sky+HD Subscriptions from 1st October 2010

      Totally unconfirmed.

Currently the 10 HD mix gets you all HD channels except Movies and Sports, no matter how many mixes you actually subscribe to.

From 5th October you will only get the HD channels corresponding to the basic mixes you have. ie you won't get Sky1 HD unless you have Variety mix.

We will ask Sky to confirm or deny asap

Re: Rumour: Changes to Sky+HD Subscriptions from 1st October 2010

Sky are continually (and correctly) always looking to increase their profits. So this would mean taking in more money from those using HD. The question is 'how can they do this without increasing the price paid by the majority of HD customers' and I suggest they can't! So it's likely to cost the average user more to access what he's currently receiving for his flat 10/month and that probably means he will have to add Mix's to his current choices. Of course many people might simply prefer to loose the likes of Sky1 HD rather than pay an extra 2/month for access. It will be interesting to see the full tariff when it becomes available.

You will pay 10 for the HD package and you will only get the channels that you subscribe to in your Mixes. For example if you don;t take the knowledge pack and wanted to watch History HD you would have to pay the 1 extra for this mix.

Potentially this could well backfire on sky. Concidering the hammering we are about to take with cut backs and job loses. Sky could find all those HD subs being cancelled as more and more of use have to tighten our belts.

      Just food for thought

Sky saw an increase in users when the 2008 crisis hit the UK. However the magnitude of the current problems suggests we are all in a whole new ball park and everyone will have to make cuts. The question is 'if you have to cut back and stay at home would you be also likely to cut a major source of entertainment'? I'm sure lots of people would find much greater savings on items that don't give 24/7 entertainment. But Hard Times Cameron is just about to change all of our lives, perhaps forever.

The standard T&Cs allow you to cancel without penalty if there is a change to the service, so I think Sky should let you cancel the HD pack within the 12 month minimum term if they change the content.

The only channels not in my paid for packs that I watch regularly on HD are Eurosport and Sky News. They are both in the News pack but I'm not sure I want to pay an extra 1 a month. I think Sky News HD and Sky 1 HD will be the ones Sky are banking on to bring in a bit of extra revenue to those keeping the HD pack - every little helps, especially if people start cancelling the 10 a month package because things are tight.

it could be tempered if Sky dropped the multirrom HD box charge and had one HD charge no matter how many boxes you had. Especially as they only do the HD box now.
