I hate to say it but sky news is free, its on freeview for heavens sake, they made it and sports news free a while ago as far as I know.
Also you can watch it on iPhone with a sub.

Speaking for myself I have stopped watching Sky New since Ofcon ruled that the Adam Boulton altercation with Alastair Campbell during the election campaign didn't breach any protocols. I thought it was an outrageous piece of journalism and clearly showed just how biased Sky were against Labour.

Clearly given a nod and a wink from their Tory masters as a thank you for backing them in the election.

No, whether free or otherwise the channel never gets an airing in our house anymore. Bit like the Sun and Merseyside - you reap what you sow.

I think it pretty much does, its broadcasted unencrypted which is pretty much Free To Air's definition. This is before we get to the obvious stupidity of charging your own customers for something none customers get for free from freesat/freeview/web/mobile.

Sky News is part of the News mix and therefore you should subcribe this mix to get it.... however Sky choose to broadcast it unencrypted and have done for some time.

      You're right.

That's why 4Music, Dave, Virgin1, Viva, Dave ja vu, Fiver, Five USA, The Big Deal, Quest, Rocks & Co 1, Sky Sports News, SmileTV2, SmileTV3 and Tease Me TV are all on Freeview and are all also Free To Air on satellite.

      Oh wait..

Re: Rumour: Changes to Sky+HD Subscriptions from 1st October 2010

I'm totally bemused by Sky News HD requiring a HD sub to watch it. Has Sky gone completley mad? Who in their right mind could give a fig if the news is in HD or SD and who would pay extra to watch it in HD - what's the point?

I would imagine it is all about making the 10 pm HD sub appear worthwhile for customers after the new SD/HD alignment.

What seeing the likes of Adam Boulton in even more gory detail? If you simply have the mixes without the premium channels then I think the HD sub is very bad value for money indeed.

I also don't know why anyone would want to pay extra for seeing the news in HD, complete waste of bandwidth. Now documentaries, they are a completely different ballgame, some of the wildlife programs are absolutely stunning.
