On Virgin's recent double speed announcement.....

Jeff Dodds, executive director of brand and marketing communications at Virgin Media.

"We've got a long history of giving our customers more and we wanted to let them know about the exciting boost they'll soon get from us. Our competitors' customers might also feel a twinge of envy when they hear about this
He aint wrong. Come on Sky, throw us a bone.

Are some exchanges being converted to FTTH rather than just to the cabinet then? Damn .. not us

A few exchanges have been named for going straight to FTTP and not touching FTTC. A few others are having both FTTC & FTTP.

The majority are going to only get FTTC for now.

See the bottom of the page of this link for lists of different exchanges according to their completion status:

Re: Sky will be looking to run trials of fibre-optic broadband

So in some lucky places, BT are installing fibre all the way to the property, regardless of whether or not they have an order for fibre from that property? Is this just because the cable needs replacing anyway, do you think? Or perhaps I'm just assuming it costs a lot more than it actually does to install from cabinets to properties.

Re: Sky will be looking to run trials of fibre-optic broadband

Sorry, I guess that the old copper wires will remain in place until the customer wishes to go to Fibre for their broadband.

Just to really upset both you and myself, FTTP can potentially go up to 1Gbit d/l & 600Mb u/l at the moment. However it is generally only set to 100mb for the d/l speeds at the moment.

Re: Sky will be looking to run trials of fibre-optic broadband

Well from around March, BTO are turning up the speed so that anyone with FTTC will have an "up to" 80Mb connection, with around 20Mb u/l speeds.

Just finished the survey. It wouldn't tell you at the start who it was for but at the end it was for Sky. So fibre is moving forward.... slowly.
