      That looks like good news.

Appreciate the kind words, I do work for sky but I can understand some peoples scepticism. As for some of the things coming in the new year, as mentioned Sky Wifi, for those on sky broadband. With sky taking over the Cloud there will be over 5000 free wifi hotspots at launch. The bigger picture with regards to the Cloud will be Sky Anywhere, where you will be able to access not only Sky Go but your planner on the move also (hd+ boxes only). Expect to hear an announcement on fibre broadband in the new year too. There will be an updated epg, where it will become an HD epg, with slightly different fonts to the current epg, and also expect Dolby Digital over hdmi to be added like with the non + hd boxes. The Shared Planner feature is due to start testing soon, where if you have multiple hd boxes you can view a recorded programme on any of the hd boxes in your house (provided they are linked to your router). Anytime+ will be rolled out to other isp's and is currently going through more staff testing.
For those with multi-room, and the SkyHD STB, this will also be even better news too.

As for Fibre, we've been waiting 2 years already. BT Infinity is now very cheap. I've already commented that Sky has been left standing on the dockside as everyone else has not only embraced Fibre, but has been marketing it successfully so far.

The DD sound through the HDMI port is a positive improvement. It is something which has often been criticised on this forum and is a very positive step forward for many people who have suitable surround sound or home theatre systems. It certainly foxed me as to why it wasn't present sooner.

when i left i was asked my opinion about the free hotspots, i said no use to me as i have unlimited data on my mobile anyway but i can see the attraction to many.

Re: Sky will be looking to run trials of fibre-optic broadband

A little off topic but i'm impressed at the speed of BT, two weeks ago my exchange given a 'go live' date of March 2012, Monday last week BT turned up to start digging next to cab, drove past last night on the way home and new cab installed and all the protective fencing gone. Pretty impressive i realise that it probably still needs power and the fibre routing but still.

Re: Sky will be looking to run trials of fibre-optic broadband

I have forgotten the actual schedule, but essentially one firm comes in to lay the concrete, then the cabinet is installed. Next the electricity is connected and finally BTO comes in to install the fibre electronics and fibre cables.

Sounds about right as i wouldn't expect to see the dirty great big drum of fibre till mid Jan at the earliest. If i'm being realistic though i don't think i'll be able to get it, i've got a sneaky feeling i connect direct to the exchange

Your current stats don't indicate that you are very close, but it is possible if you are in a rural area, for example, that you are connected directly.

The best suggestion would be to take a little walk and follow your telephone line to the exchange (or at least to a green street cabinet).

All mine currently stats is '2012' now, but I will still wait for Sky to launch their Fibre product range first.

Re: Sky will be looking to run trials of fibre-optic broadband

I would love sky to announce FTTx grade products, i'm in no rush to get Infinity as i like freedom lol.

Just did an exchange search on the skyuser front page which details the below:-

      xchange: Sudbury BT Code: EASUD
      Location: Newton Rd CO10 2RL
      Distance:- Direct: 0.22 mi
      (appx)* By Road: 0.3 mi

Now i realise this isn't the be all and end all but difficult to trace as cable leaves mine underground so.....
