Sky will be looking to run trials of fibre-optic broadband

This is a discussion on Sky will be looking to run trials of fibre-optic broadband within the Sky news and announcements forums, part of the SkyUser Announcements category; I am sure they know what they are doing and my suggestion was mainly for geeks who like doing these ...

I am sure they know what they are doing and my suggestion was mainly for geeks who like doing these things but I've gone off topic, so perhaps the discussion should return to the subject at hand...

Speaking of which ... I finally found my cabinet! I'd got the number off the list linked to previously, but silly me, I was thinking the cabinet actually might be fairly close to my street. For example, there is a fairly new cabinet right at the end of our street. But no ... ours is a much older one (or now, I assume, the shinier box stood in front of it) about 3 or 4 streets away.

Certainly quite a distance, but definitely a lot closer than our exchange!

No, the 31meg estimate is with Origin broadband (from the same cabinet), and has said that for ages. The (hopefully) conservative (and current) BT estimate is 22.9mb. The good thing about Origin is they do a 24meg package which I could initially use and is 5 cheaper than the 'upto 40meg'. They said a fully accurate speed could be checked once I was on their network (to help me decide if the extra 5 was going to be worth it).

On another note, is it certain that to be Sky FTTC customer for 20, you will have to be tied to their phone service too?.

Did you complain about your current service to get the offer?

Re: Sky will be looking to run trials of fibre-optic broadband

im guessing he had registered his interest on that trial site sky have up, be interesting to know what current adsl speeds the guys who have been contacted and given fiber access before the official April launch were getting to see if sky are just targetting those with very poor speeds initially, presuming they have all been current sbbu customers and not just anyone who registered an interest ofcause

It would also be interesting to know if they're targeting those who are out of contract first .. which would possibly make sense from their point of view.

Do you know the distance to your cabinet and what speeds you get at the minute?

      cheers
