There is a new posting on the thinkbroadband site that puts this statement in question. Basically there is a 50p difference between 40/2 and 40/8.

thinkbroadband :: Openreach prices up voice services over fibre to the premises

Yes the document discusses Voice over FTTP, but if this is the same difference, then I wonder how long it will be before Sky upgrade?

Sky Fibre Unlimited Pro: Connected at 80,000 kbps / 20,000 kbps
Previous ADSL2+ Speed 19999 kbps 1153 kbps, Line Attenuation 17.5 db 6.9 db, Noise Margin 7.5 dB 8.7 dB
      Speedtest: 17.15MB/s 0.97Mb/s Ping 31 ms

For the sake of 50p I think they'll lose an awful lot of potential customers.

Re: Sky will be looking to run trials of fibre-optic broadband

I can not see Sky wanting to have the slowest fibre product on the market, so I think it will be a matter of time before it bumps up to either 40/8 or even 40/10. I am not even sure the reason for the initial speed is cost, it maybe a measure put in place to see how the uptake goes so their network doesnt fall over.

It could also be BT who have set the speeds?

Lets not forget BT have had time for their systems/network to get used to the heavy users would it be wise for sky to go marching in offering the same speeds on their own network? Or maybe a free boost when the next price increase comes..

I called sky today in regards to fibre, and was also told that they would have some sort of introduction offer... I did ask about the cloud too... but the person I spoke to had no idea what I was talking about

Not at all - it was just a jokey reply - 'cos you might have struck a raw nerve ;-))

Actually when I get 80/20 soon as a free upgrade I won't be quite so hurt then ;-)))

      Cheers
