The same could be said of what is (rumoured) for Sky's product. FTTC can offer >2Mb upstream so why not offer it?

They are perhaps playing it safe with speeds until things have settled down a bit, as this will be on Sky's own network and unlimited usage is being offered.

You may also recall Sky Broadband Max originally had a top speed of 16 meg down/768k up, even though it was possible to go faster.

I dare say a non-traffic managed 40mb Sky connection would be for the most part just as good as Virgin or BT's faster offerings - although it would be nice to have a faster upload speed too.

My case is slightly different as originally I was on the Mid package. I did not elect to go on to the new, at that time, Unlimited package by signing up for a further 12 months as I had no need for the unlimited download. I was then paying 5. When the due date came I was moved to Unlimited and charged the new price of 7.50 with no need for a new 12 month contract. I am still paying the same price. With the introduction of Anytime+ I am now well over the old Mid limit every month, so it has worked out well for me.

Sky will be offering a 2Mbit upload and the reason for a 2Mbit upload is cost, an 8Mbit upload costs more off BTO.

No, the DLM is constant on a fibre line and it cannot be switched off, neither can you alter the interleaving should it be activated, you need to wait for it to go on its own if your line is up to it.

The DLM however does recover the line much quicker though, BTO seem to have it a little bit more sorted than BTW did with ADSL.

One last thing is no matter what anyone tells you there is no 10 training period with fibre either, the DLM will deside what it is going to do within 24 hours and only then if you have has some seriously bad line conditions. It will open the profile as wide as it can from the off and if your line works then thats it done and dusted.

What do you mean "if your line works" .. is there potential for it not to work? Or do you just mean if problems are found?

That's how it used to be with Sky in the good old days.
