I have just double checked and The Cloud will be available for free to anyone who has Sky Broadband Unlimited. So only those who have the Connect or Home Lite would not be included in this statement.

I would love to have FTTC, but currently my exchange is going to get it sometime in 2012. I assume this means nearer to December than April.

As for my usage, there are occasions when it is useful to share (legally) files with friends. I could also stream music from my home to my mobile, or perhaps video content, more easily.

That streaming is internal. I was talking about streaming from my home to wherever I happen to be.

Whilst it is possible with a 1Mb upstream connection, streaming video isn't particularly brilliant. As for copying files, it is safer to use an FTP client or create a personalised torrent for larger files.

I've had a 2Mb upstream connection previously and loved it. It would be far better if Sky could go for the 40/10 or 80/20 connection. Currently I am still awaiting a response with regards to the speeds on the official forum.

Good news indeed, however from the press statement it looks like to get the 20 per month price, then you must take TV, Talk & Line rental, so a decision to be made if, like me, you still pay BT for line rental!

      hmmmm!

edit: - or was this obvious to everyone else? ;-)

Whether it is or is not obvious, it may be prudent to point out that all new Broadband customers from September 2011 have needed to have Sky Talk as well.

From a technical perspective, I would suggest that this makes things much easier.

From a customer perspective, I personally haven't had any complaints to date.

I was the same too. My exchange isn't FTTC yet. But don't get your hope up too high as I think BTO will set the date on your and my exchange probably mid 2013. We probably the lower on the lists! Once FTTC is available then I will join Sky FTTC no doubt!

The date for my exchange for bt fttc is 1/3/12 on sam knows. Are they usually good at keeping to these dates. Or do i have to expect long delays.

Re: Sky will be looking to run trials of fibre-optic broadband

personally i cant see any reason not to change the pnone line rental over to sky if not done so already, unless you pay BT line rental for 1yr up front @ 120/12 months then sky is cheaper @ 12.25/month instead of BT's 14.60/month, sky's anytime call plan is only 5/month compared to BT's 4.90/month or eve&weekends is free on sky but 3.15/month on BT and you get to pay it all on 1 convenient bill, its a no brainer

      @thomasjc1

best place to check exchange dates is here http://www.superfast-openreach.co.uk/where-and-when/
you can use the interactive map or check out the 3 links at bottom of that page for exchanegs already taking orders, exchanges coming soon (within next 12 months) and exchanges for future planning

Re: Sky will be looking to run trials of fibre-optic broadband

any confirmation of the upstream yet?
im not interested in the downstream at all
22mbit is just fine 99% of the time
the 1216 upstream is a limiting factor though

I cant see me going to vdsl2 for a jump to 2mbit
      but 10 or 20 i would
