well there's allot who cant afford sky but it has more selection than virgin or bt. I am not having a pop or anything just the facts bud.

in terms of virgin joining sky hum its possible if sky bought them out that would create a whole new ball game against bt.

Sky should get a new Sky++HD box (triple turner box) just like Virgin Media Tivo box

We are in danger of going off topic folks.

Sky TV's basic package isn't cheaper than Virgin's basic package. It does offer a lot more channels than Virgin though.

Virgin's basic package costs 6.50 per month (75 channels), the next is 12.50 per month (115 channels) with the largest at 24.50 per month (175 channels).

With Sky you can get around 50 HD channels alone if you subscribe to the Sky World package.

As for their customer service, I've always avoided Virgin because of it's wonderful reputation.

I did help a friend's mother dump Virgin TV & Broadband over the Christmas period. She is now happy with PlusNet for her phone & broadband and she had Sky TV installed too. She has even more channels to watch than she did with Virgin. She is handling the Sky+ features nice and easily and didn't have the Tivo as she would have been charged more as an existing customer.

Before people ask, Sky hasn't got any LLU equipment in her local exchange, but if they did, her connection speed would be equal or better than my own.

Re: Sky will be looking to run trials of fibre-optic broadband

I am sure this hasbeen asked in this thread at some point but i cannot spot it:

I am on Hengoed exchange which lists "FTTC" - enabled in some areas

So, my exchange is FTTC enabled but on BT Infinity website - the checker tells me that my address cannot currently have Infinity. I was told by BT ages ago that some addresses are not linked up with FTTC from the house to the exchange for the FTTC bit?? They had no answer as to when it would be either?

Can anyone explain what is missing that i need to get FTTC given exchange we are on is FTTC enabled. How can i found out when i WILL be able to access the FTTC capability on my exchange?

      thanks

      Why?

Currently I can record one channel, whilst watching or recording another. I can also download lots of Anytime+ content at the same time, all with the one STB. I also swapped the drive for a 2TB one.

Added to this, I could watch live content with Sky Go on my Laptop. If I had a iPhone I could also stream Sky Go content to that at the same time.

Added to that, I happen to be able to stream content to my TV and Home Theatre system from a large range of sources, including my NAS drive (6TB), and external drive housing (4TB) and two 1TB drives. I can also stream content directly from my Laptop to my TV. The content includes video, music and photos. Some of the streamed video is subscription based, which I currently don't subscribe to, but there is loads of free content available.

All this on my Unlimited broadband connection.

p.s. I'm running out of storage space

Basically BTO need to fit a new cabinet near to your home.

Check the local planning applications to see what is happening there and you may get a positive response.

Initially they were only installing cabinets to cover around 40% of the population in a given area.

Re: Sky will be looking to run trials of fibre-optic broadband

I know everyone is excited but wouldnt it be best to wait and see what the end offering will be? Before anyone looses sleep I know the speed is not as BT but on like for like package it seems like a good deal other than the 50 setup which is free on BT at the moment.

It would be interesting to know if it will be a 12 or 18 month contract too...
