Being that someone else (or the same person? has said the same thing about there being a 15mb cap on the thinkbroadband site yet has provided no evidence for it I think we should all take that info with a large pinch of salt.

Sky is to give customers even more choice by adding a fibre broadband product to its range from April. For £20 a month, customers will be able to access download speeds of up to 40 megabits with a totally unlimited product that has no usage caps. From launch the new product will be available to around 30% of UK homes, growing over time in line with BTís fibre roll-out programme.

if It is true, wow, what an exodus to Infinity there will be
Exactly, the current adsl is sold as upto 20mb, althought many of us never see anywhere near that there are plenty of people who do get speeds around 17mb or more, why would sky then have a fiber product that costs more and in their own words is meant for "customers who want more speed" if 90% of the time that customers would be most likely using the connection it was capped to slower than what some can get on adsl, that to me sounds completely stupid and counter productive.
Yes you could argue that its aimed at those sky customers that cant get anywhere near 15mb on sky adsl but they certainly could get a better deal going virgin or bt so would be shooting themselves in the foot surely!

so i currently pay £15 per month for unlimited bb with sky (no sky talk only sky tv) so it will be £5 extra a month for the fibre optic or is that only for people with sky talk

also will there be free router upgrades?

      It would be ridiculous.

Thats fair enough but don't use this forum for airing them. Your posts in future will be moderated / reviewed before being published. Too many people have reported them for us not to take any action.

Wow all this talk of fibre is almost like the launch day of a new iPhone

      Q. Could the intal media release that has been taken from sky's result that talks about fibre have been written and submitted before the 17a profile / 80/20 increase and that sky did not mention it... maybe a surprise boost when they open it up to orders?

      Q. Do you really think Sky will charge £50 connection free (free from BT)

      And last of all...

      Q. Will the new Sky router work with fibre or will it be another new router?

I personally think the intial release is to cause a bit of Apple madness.. get people talking..no such thing as bad PR! To be honest until they launch it for customers to order the offering could change anyway..

Re: Sky will be looking to run trials of fibre-optic broadband

I watched Jeremy Darroch this morning and I'm very pleased that Fibre Optic Broadband is being launched, but wondering if it will be availlable in Gateshead where I live in the North East Of England. I've been looking at the link that was given earlier, to see if it is or when it will be availlable here, but as a relitively beginner in broadband, I did,nt understand any of the details at all. So I'm quite unsure whether it will be available in Gateshead this year.

According to the BT infinity website, Gateshead is going to be ready in March:

      Consumer :: Fibre Map

If you want to check in more detail, you could put your details into the BT Infinity website:

BT Infinity – super fast broadband with a fibre optic internet connection

and/or check Samknows: SamKnows - Broadband Availability Checker
