New Sky+HD PVR5 due to launch during January
Unconfirmed.
Manufacturers will be Amstrad and Samsung. It has a 500Gb hard drive giving up to 185 hours of standard definition or up to 60 hours high definition recording. It will look pretty much the same as the existing box but without the Interactive Card slot which has been phased out.
The other big new feature is the OFF function which has been required by new EU regulations. When in the OFF mode the power draw will be less than 1 watt. So there will be 3 power modes: On (Green LED); Standby (Amber LED); OFF (Red LED). When switched to OFF you will need to press the power button on the box to wake it as the remote won't work. It also won't wake to record things or do callbacks or update anytime.
It's also significantly smaller than the standard HD boxes. More the size of an SD box.

Re: New Sky+HD PVR5 due to launch during January
I've been thinking of buying one of these models, to replace my Thomson Box. Do you know how much the new model will cost?
Ian.

Re: New Sky+HD PVR5 due to launch during January
Any idea when the new boxes will be supplied ?
I am gonna call sky next week to upgrade to HD with the self install and makes sense to wait if these are not far away

Since it's unconfirmed so far it won't be within the next week or 2.

The self install is supposedly to start from 12th January, as for if these models would be available or not, it would make sense to start selling these at that time. One source has since added that there are only Amstrads at the moment.
Again none of this is actually confirmed, but it is looking increasingly likely as different sources' information comes in to us.

Re: New Sky+HD PVR5 due to launch during January
I should think it will be a 50/50 split, 250Gb for our use. I wonder if the fully off mode also cuts the power to the LNB? that may not be a good idea in cold weather, sometimes they wont start again. Its a shame about Pace, but the recall must have caused upset at Sky.
