Unconfirmed.

Rumour has it, existing customers who have Sky+ and a landline connection will be able to save £30 on Sky+HD by doing a self install. ie just pay £49 for the box and £30 delivery charge it it will be yours.

Re: Sky To Allow Self Install on Sky+HD?

I would love to know how they could justify charging £30 for delivery?

£30 is for delivery and nothing more otherwise they are in breach of the law for misrepresentation.

So the question is, how can they justify £30 when it would be more like £15.

Re: Sky To Allow Self Install on Sky+HD?

I think £15 is being exceptionally generous! It can be done for under £10 fully insured and that's a one off price not a massively reduced contract price for zillions of parcels which Sky will have negotiated!

The update to HD process involves a phone call (at your expense and at Sky's extortionate call cost rates) and a couple of presses on a keyboard by Sky to activate your card. That's more than paid for while you queue waiting for a real human being to actually answer the bloody phone!

..........amazing how the price always manages to end up at £79 don't you think?

Well considering the expense of the HD receiver, I think you are being unfair.

I wonder what will happen when an end user cocks it up and damages the receiver?

Re: Sky To Allow Self Install on Sky+HD?

I think the £30 is fair, but £15 / £20 could be even more attractive. I also believe a lot more people would get HD because of this decision, at the end of the day, everyone has been asking for this for years, and the process looks like it is now being kickstarted.

Re: Sky To Allow Self Install on Sky+HD?

It makes perfect sense for Sky to offer this, and I for one, am glad that they actually listened on this front, even though it don't affect me.
