    Sky VOD Final Trials Soon

This is a discussion on Sky VOD Final Trials Soon within the Sky news and announcements forums, part of the SkyUser Announcements category; I bet that they don't post ethernet cables out to everyone to hook up their boxes to their routers....

You would be right, another option as described here is to go wireless and use the little wireless box:

Sky Anytime Plus adds video on demand service to Sky HD - Pocket-lint

users will have to buy a wireless box from Sky if they are hoping to go wire-free.

Sky says that the box, will come with a "minimal" cost and cutely looks like a miniature version of the Sky HD set-top offering.

I'd bet they don't want to pay to help you watch TV. They are after all trying to make money.
Why should they provide you with an ethernet cable?
There is no p in Thomson.

Re: Sky VOD Final Trials Soon

Found this in the sky mag in July 2010 edition.

Leading edge techology. This Autumn plus, we're launching sky anytime+,our new TV on demand service which offers a virtual library of great movies and TV boxsets ready to watch at a time to suit you.
Anyone tell me what it means, you have to be on sky's network please.I with sky unlimited broadband is that enough or do you have to be with sky's own exchange equipment and if so how do you find out who equipment your on.

If you dial 17070 from your hanset you will get a response from BT's line Test Facilty if you have a BT line. If you get no response you are on Sky's network. Did you opt out of the switch to the Sky network or have you recently joined Sky? If you didn't opt out or are a recent new customer then you will have been switched.

According to the report by think broadband when Sky announced this all you need to have is Sky broadband, but the initial offerings will only be in standard def.

For me VOD won't be enough to get me to sign up with Sky again and I geuss that sooner or later they will open it up to everybody, if not how are they going to sell premium VOD to everybody.

Re: Sky VOD Final Trials Soon

We began our Anytime + trial today.

Was very easy to setup. Sky downloaded an update to our EPG. We plugged in an Ethernet cable from the box to our router and then phoned Sky who activated our account for Anytime +.

Almost straight away our Anytime changed to show the one you have seen in the videos. I must say it is working really well so far. Have downloaded a couple of films. It generally lets you watch a film once 30% or so has downloaded, while it downloads the rest in the backgound. There also seems to be a fairly large selection.

Each film is generally between 1gb and 1.5gb in size.

Re: Sky VOD Final Trials Soon

Initial launch is currently pegged for 18th October.

You'll only be able to watch stuff from the mixes you subscribe to.
Only Sky content at launch. Mostly movies. Some sport. Some other stuff.

Need Sky broadband and an Amstrad 890 or 895 model HD box with the upgraded software.

You'll need to call Sky to enable the service after this date.
Can connect yourself with ethernet cable or can buy a WiFi ethernet adaptor (No usb dongles for this I'm afraid) from Sky.
