      Sky Broadband Usage On MySky?

      Unconfirmed by PM

      Sky are to launch a tool on MySky where you can see how much bandwidth you have used in the last month. Well from what we've seen this is due to start on an as yet unspecified date in October and roll-out to everyone by Christmas.

      There was also further clarification of the process when people go over their usage allowance. The customer will receive an email notification, advising them to consider upgrading. If it happens again within 6 months then they will get another email and the system will auto-upgrade them to the next tier.

      They have stated that they will not slow people down or charge them extra for the bandwidth when they do go over. I guess this is the end of the line for those people downloading unlimited amounts on broadband base.

      All they need now is a status page for their service and a lot of people will be happy.

      I mentioned the lack of a status page when I spoke to Tier 2 support about another matter on Monday.

      The initial response was that it would be no help when your line is down, but we agreed that the possibility of mobile internet access or phone-a-friend soundly counters that argument, and that not all faults that might be reported cause total loss of service. In the end he agreed it could be very helpful, but presumably is in no position to do anything about it.

      Re: Sky Broadband Usage On MySky?

      Just a question from the OP, the "system will auto-upgrade them to the next tier"
      Next tier what?
      Next package up, which would have a cost implication? and if so are they allowed to do this as part of your contract?
      Next tier support team to take this matter forward on upgrading your account? and if you say no then what, as it then goes on to say they don't plan on charging you or slowing you down...

      Good idea in principle, but will be interesting to see how they work this...

      I would say so, as the email will have warned of this automatically happening.

      Sky's Legal Team will surely have been involved.

      The upgrade option is already covered in the T & Cs at (b)-
      If in any month you exceed your Usage Cap, we will notify you that you have done so.
      If, in any subsequent month, your usage exceeds your Usage Cap again, then we may do one or more of the following things by notice:
      (a) charge you fair and reasonable costs for your usage (and any reasonable administration costs) in excess of your Usage Cap;
      (b) change your subscription to a Product with a higher Usage Cap, in which case we would also notify you of the new price you will be charged;
      (c) suspend your use of Sky Broadband for the relevant month; or
      (d) end your Contract in accordance with Condition 11 of your Contract;

      This would have been even more acceptable if Sky hadn't first reduced the usage allowance!!!

      Regards,

      Felix
