Re: Sky Broadband Changes - 22nd June

I'm a little confused, you talk about Sky Base, Mid and Max. I understand these, I also understand that they'll be dropping th eBase package and going with just Mid and Max, if this is so, what the hell is Connect, as I can't find anything ont he sky site about it.

Is Connect better than Max? Will Max ever go up to ADSL2+?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Connect is the service supplied by BT. Sky use it when an LLU connection is unavailable. Max is already ADSL2+. Connect is the pits compared with Max

this is good news. I am on unlimited right now and getting 14.9MBPS and live very close to an exchange.

Does this mean that I would get a higher speed of around 19MBPS? Since currently, the package allows up to 16MB and I am getting 14.9MB...... ??

Re: Sky Broadband Changes - 22nd June

I think he may already be syncing at the full 16 but is seeing a throughput of 14.9, which seems about right via ethernet.

I'm interested to see how this is implemented, will everyone be put on dlm again? I get the full 16mb at the moment but have read that my attenuation of 24 will limit me to 18-20mb, which surely means that recapping my line at 20mb may result in instability and packet loss? Surely the same applies to everyone who is achieving the max their package offers but whose stats are unlikely to support the new max speeds, be it 10 or 20mb? Also, even if they did a staggered rollout using dlm won't this mean tier3 are going to be very busy for a while with all the calls from customers querying their new speeds?

I'm not sure anyone actually has the answers to these questions yet but they've been rattling around in my head for the last few days so I thought I would share them!

Re: Sky Broadband Changes - 22nd June

new customers will obviously go through DLM, and over the next month or 2 existing users will go back on DLM and if the line can give more it will...

have also been having words about getting configuration locked out until the first run of DLM has finished, as a lot of agents are ignoring DLM just cause someone has a bit of a rant and manually reconfiguring a line on the first day of connection - said agents get reported as DLM has to run the first time...once complete it can then be manually configured...

I am not certain, but I think you may be disappointed there, your upstream NM is fairly low, indicating it may struggle with more speed. You may have to give up some download speed to get much more.
