Totally agree re. Homeplugs - they're brilliant! I use them for my main connections (e.g., to/from Xbox, Slingbox) with WiFi for laptop use. They give a much faster and reliable connection and work over long distances too (albeit at slower speeds) - giving a fully-wired-up garden shed!

This also applies to very new connections, where the Test/Master socket is in an external box.

Re: Sky Broadband Changes - 22nd June

Got bored of waiting for DLM to start on my line so emailed and asked for my line speeds to be adjusted. Previously my speeds were:

      Attenuation - Down 24.5 / Up 11.8
      Down - 16384 kbps / Noise Margin - 7.1db
      Up - 764 kbps / Noise Margin - 11.8db

They have just been adjusted to:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 17086 kbps 966 kbps
Line Attenuation 24.5 db 11.7 db
Noise Margin 7.1 db 8.5 db

Is it worth me emailing again and saying thanks but I still have room in my upload for a bit more, perhaps up to 1024? Or is it pointless to quibble over such a small amount of kbps?

      Thanks for any advice

For some reason the upload noise margin always seems to be around 8-8.5dbs, even though the line is set to 7 dbs, so you are probably getting as much as your line will give..

I think the low upstream speed has something to do with the way sky have set it up, even though the line is able to run at the full say 1.3Mb the way they have it working it would not go any higher. I have the same problem. For the best upstream you would need o2/Be for top upstream speeds.
Connected at 17Mbps on sky unlimited

Cheers fella, I'm pretty happy as it is anyway, only reason I asked is because I play a lot of Xbox Live and any extra upload seems to go a long way in terms of lag.

Re: Sky Broadband Changes - 22nd June

Hey guys, I managed to fix my wiring and I am unsure if I am getting the most out of my line. I think my line can handle more upload but want an experts opinion! My stats are as follows:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 14235 kbps 828 kbps
Line Attenuation 29 db 15 db
Noise Margin 9 db 16 db

They are exactly the same every time I connect. I use to get above 15000 every now and again, but I emailed sky about a month ago and they must have reconfigured my line to these figures. So my quesiton is, if it worth me sending another email to ajust my stats further?

      thanks in advance
