If a company advertises 20Mb your most unlikley going to get 20Mb showing in your router stats.

19Mb if ideal and the extra 1Mb is not going to make a blind bit of differance to your download/uploads speeds.

Why would you not get 20mb showing as a sync speed? I can understand that with overheads the download speed will be below this but not the sync speed. It makes a mockery of the upto 20mb speed advertising!!! if it were true which I doubt!

You will not get the max 20Mb not even if you lived in the exchange.
That is not true, Dogman should be able to get the maximum 20 Mb available. There are a few on the forum who have managed the magic 20 with a higher attenuation. You are right though an increase of less than 5% would hardly be noticeable. It is the 'bragging rights' that are important.

Re: Sky Broadband Changes - 22nd June

Following on from my earlier post regarding my 30% speed drop since DLM here are my Router stats as per Isitme's request.
      BEFORE DLM
      Connection Down 2912 Up 416
      Attenuation Down 63.0 Up 31.5
Noise Margin Down 7.1 Up 14.0

      NOW {After 5 days of DLM }
      Connection Down 2047 Up 493
      Attenuation Down 64.0 Up 39.3
Noise Margin Down 7.3 Up 11.5

Just to confirm my previous comments I have had Sky BB for over 2 and a half years and have had NO problems at all with my connection/service. Whilst I appreciate that "speed" is not everything I do believe that it becomes more relevant when a 3 kbps connection becomes a 2 kbps connection. My Sky router is a cabled connection, direct to a BT adsl v10 Faceplate { Hope that helps} Any help/ advice would be greatly appreciated. Many Thanks.

Your stats just confirm what I said in my previous reply. You have been put on to ADSL2+ and your line does not like it. Call Sky and ask them to take you off ADSL2+ and put you back on G.DMT as your line performs much better with that Mode. You may have difficulty getting past Tier 1 who will probably be reluctant to do anything. Ask to speak to a team leader or Manager and tell him/her that a 30% reduction in speed is just not acceptable. They should pass you to CST or if you are lucky, they may fix it for you.

Many thanks for your input. Have phoned Sky { as you suggested } ,spoke to Tier 1............................................. got a "ticket " No..........................................

Re: Sky Broadband Changes - 22nd June

If you have a ticket, that is half the battle, it will get you through to CST without the usual hoop jumping. Don't wait too long to use it as it will die in a couple of days. Phoning after 10.30 pm is usually the best time to get through.

Re: Sky Broadband Changes - 22nd June

Managed to get through and speak to a VERY help-full guy in CST. He has put my settings back {approx} to where they were before DLM was started AND taken DLM off my line as well to stop the problem "coming back". So all is well again !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Many thanks again for your advice and input.

Re: Sky Broadband Changes - 22nd June

I am on day 5 of DLM now and woke up this morning to find that my connection speeds have gone down.

I hope that is normal and they will soon come back up. I never get any disconnections, it's always been as solid as a rock synching at the full max offering.

I am hoping that the reason they have decreased is because I was offline for a couple of hours whilst I rewired my cabling and renewed my master box, face plate and an extension just for the router and the DLM process saw that as a possible problem.
