Re: Sky Broadband Changes - 22nd June

Would I be better off using cat 5e cable or whatever it is called from the oval box to the master box and new faceplate when I get one?
Not really, proper twisted pair CW1308 will do the job. If you have some spare Cat5 cable there is no reason why you should not use it, but it will not do the job any better. If you don't have an NTE5 linebox it would be better if you installed one of these too. If you have one and have an extension running from it, the extension should be connected to the faceplate, not the back terminals.

My noise margin is about the same as Dog-Man's, and look at my stats....
Exactly!!! and your line is maxxed out without problems. Dogmans attenuation is half of yours and should support 20Mb,(more if it were available) if it did not have problems.

Re: Sky Broadband Changes - 22nd June

I have just ordered everything I need from the first oval junction box right up to the extension socket that will sit in my computer room.

50 odd pounds hopefully well spent.

Re: Sky Broadband Changes - 22nd June

I have been on DLM for 3 days now {Selby exchange} .Before it started my down speed was 2848 and up was 416. These speeds have been achieved consistantley { give or take a very small 2or3% variation} over the 2 + years that I have had Sky broadband and during this time i have had no problems with the service. Due to my distance from the exchange I did not expect to get an improved service BUT after 3 days of testing my speeds are now at 2047 down and 493 up.I have been checking each day and if it continueous to go down like it is, I will soon be on dial up speeds ! Why should my down speed have dropped by nearly 30% when like I say for the last 2 years I have had no problems with it at all ? Will it "improve" as the 10 day test takes place? Any comments would be greatly recieved as after my 5 mid package doubled to 10, my 40 g linmit going to 10g, to loose 30% of my speed as well is the LAST STRAW !!!

Originally you were on G.DMT(ADSL1), now you have been moved to ADSL2+ through DLM running on your line. This faster Mode does not always work too well on long lines, in fact experience on the forum shows that it seldom does. If you have a high attenuation and it looks like you have, phone Sky and ask them to take DLM of your line and return it to G.DMT.

Just in case there are other issues, post your stats, from the normal position and from the Test socket, link below, if you have one. We can thn give definite advice.

Re: Sky Broadband Changes - 22nd June

Just finished renewing all cable, master box and NTE faceplate and added an extension specifically for the ADSL connection.

My stats have not changed much at all. They have only improved ever so slightly.

I am on day 3 of DLM.

Re: Sky Broadband Changes - 22nd June

Yes, it is good, but as I am almost living in the exchange, I should get the full 20mb or more if it was offered.

Perhaps things will improve as DLM goes on.

How long before my details in sky.com tell me I am on DLM?

      Anyone know?

You will not get the max 20Mb not even if you lived in the exchange.

Anyway, the extra 1Mb will not make any differance whats so ever to your speeds.
