Re: Sky Broadband Changes - 22nd June

Thanks for the reply/sarcasm! Strangely, it comes as absolutely no surprise to me that Sky have more than one member of staff.....but it does come as a surprise that people working in the broadband "support" area, know nothing (or claim to know nothing) about the broadband re-grades.
What term exactly would you use to describe support people like this...?

Anyway - I digress - Other people seem to have been able to call Sky and get this information - or get some information. All I want is the number that others have called on, and I will do the same.

I had the email last Friday and it looks like I have started DLM today.

My upload speed has gone up to 931, but my download speed has not increased.

I thought they would have both changed if DLM is happening?

It looks like that may be all you are going to get. Have you checked all your wiring, compared stats in the Test socket etc?

Why will that be all I will get?

I live only 200 mtrs from the exchange in the same road.

I always synched at the max 16mb before they decided to DLM me.

Your noise margin is pretty low, this is usually a good indication that the line is about maxxed out. That is why i mentioned the Test socket, a rise in noise margin there would show your internal wiring is a problem. You should get 20Mb easily with your attenuation.

There is only one number for Sky BB Support, most get through by using this number 08442 410 515

Hmmm, maybe time to get one of those faceplates then before DLM finishes.

      Which one is best?

When I setup my Broadband, I hardwired the cable to the rear of a bog standard BT box which then goes into the next room and my router plugs into it.

Re: Sky Broadband Changes - 22nd June

I have just had a quick check of my line.

It comes into the house into the usual oval (ish) box. From there a cable runs to my bog standard BT box, but I noticed that the cable has been joined at one point with a cable connector. 4 x screws, two for each cable.

I have hard wired a cable from the rear of the BT box and that goes to an extension box which my router plugs into.

I will try plugging directly into the test socket within tomorrow when I get home from work.

I am very interested now in getting a new faceplate.

Would I be better off using cat 5e cable or whatever it is called from the oval box to the master box and new faceplate when I get one?
