Re: Sky Broadband Changes - 22nd June

Hmm, been on DLM for a couple of weeks now, stats as below.

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8190 kbps 796 kbps
Line Attenuation 44.5 db 23.3 db
Noise Margin 6.8 db 12.0 db

To my mind it looks like I'm unlikely to get much more downstream but any chance of a bit more upstream? (figures have seemed pretty steady any time I've checked over the past week).

Have you had a look at the Broadband details on your MySky page? This should tell you if your training is complete. If it is and you want a bit more upload, give them a ring and ask them if they can do it. If you don't really need the extra few kbs upload, I would leave it., Sky are just as likely to knock something off your download to compensate.

Send a KANA form asking if your training is complete, or just phone and ask. If you don't have Sky Talk the form is cheaper as you could be passed from pillar to post on the phone, mounting up a bill.

Re: Sky Broadband Changes - 22nd June

I tried phoning Sky twice last night regarding the speed upgrades

the first person I was put through to, based in Belfast, did not have a clue, he claimed 16Mb was the max Sky offer and couldn't even get the Sky webpage to load up, after about 20 minutes I was so annoyed with him I put the phone down.

I phoned again later, after 11pm and got through to a lady who told they had increased my upload speed and made some other changes, I was asked to phone again in a week to have them recheck my line.

After ending the phone call I rechecked my router stats but nothing had changed at all.

My stats have been for at least the last 5 or 6 months as follows

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 16380 kbps 765 kbps
Line Attenuation 24.0 db 11.5 db
Noise Margin 7.3 db 10.0 db

      when I visit Mysky.com

it shows my stats as the following,

      connection details

      testing complete on 14/03/2009

      Download Speed

Your connection has been set to a download speed of up to

      9.0Mb (9216 Kb)

      Upload speed

Your connection has been set to an upload speed of up to

      0.8Mb (800 Kb)

The stats on Mysky bear no relation to what my router stats are

does anyone have an idea what speed I should be able to get, both download and upload, and how I would go about getting it implemented by someone from customer support/ customer solutions team, please,

Apart from a few ks in your upload, your stats show you are getting as much as you can. You might want to start your own thread in the Help section.

Just an update, noticed today that my download speed has gone up to 15222, so I assume there were doing the DLM stuff earlier on.

      Upload is 1168kbps.

So both figures are a bit better than before the DLM.

Re: Sky Broadband Changes - 22nd June

Well I'm actually moderately impressed with Sky! Rather than brave their rather hopeless call centre (and even worse menu options!) I emailed back in reply to the person who had finally sorted out my Quidco discount and asked if DLM had completed. They said it had and I asked if I could get a little bit more U/L and D/L.

      They adjusted it from:
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8190 kbps 796 kbps
Line Attenuation 44.5 db 23.3 db
Noise Margin 6.8 db 12.0 db

      to

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 9499 kbps 828 kbps
Line Attenuation 44.5 db 23.3 db
Noise Margin 7.1 db 11.0 db

Which I'm pretty happy with and to me looks like about the most I'll be able to get out of the line. It seems pretty stable and at least it's more than the 6Mbps they initially thought it would support!

Thanks to all on here who provided such helpful advice!

Re: Sky Broadband Changes - 22nd June

Does anyone know if there is a schedule or what the schedule is to these upgrades? I've just spoken to BB Tech support, who told me that the speed I get is determined by BT not Sky? I said that Sky were in the process of re-grading their customer's broadband services and just wanted to know how long it would take to reach my exchange - he just told me to call the normal customer service line. This line currently has no options to talk about BB, other than the tech support line, which routes to the same person that I've just spoken to...ARGHHHHHH!
