Re: Sky Broadband Changes - 22nd June

I'll see if I can try the test socket, a bit difficult logistically given its in the hall and all the computer stuff is upstairs but should be possible. I'll wait until the 10 days is up for the sake of appearances before doing anything.
Looking on this site I noticed it suggested disconnecting the ring line as a first go, is this likely to be worth while?
However I would really like to understand more as to why the speed has dropped before phoning Sky. I don't understand why previously (ie when I started with Sky in March) it started at about 2.5kbs and eventually stabilised at 1.7 but has now gone to half that. The line condition is unchanged as far as I know; are they likely to have changed the algorithm or is really that arbitrary? Not sure if its relevant but 21CN WBC has recently been enabled on my exchange (Congleton)

Re: Sky Broadband Changes - 22nd June

Connection Speed 14259 kbps 921 kbps
Line Attenuation 29.5 db 12.9 db
Noise Margin 7.3 db 10.5 db

these are my stats atm, with 10 days of DLM left. Will they stay like this, or get better, or does it start high and work it's way down? Nobody has rebooted the router these last few weeks AFAIK

I've also noticed that latency is much higher, even though nobody is using the internet (I mean, downloading/uploading - I'm just browsing it)

Re: Sky Broadband Changes - 22nd June

I have noticed that my upload speed has gone from ~600kbps to ~1200kbps.

However my download speed has dropped a bit. I'm less than a kilometer from the exchange and have always had a very high d/l speed, almost the full 16mb. Is there some chance that it will increase to nearer 20mb as mentioned on Skys website?

      What are your current stats?

Check your Broadband details on your My Sky page, it looks like your line may be training.

Re: Sky Broadband Changes - 22nd June

Hmm, well I've just upgraded to B/band Unlimited (managed to get Sky CS to manually apply the 50 credit after unsuccessfully trying to do an online upgrade via Quidco for the past three months!).

      Current stats are:
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4096 kbps 512 kbps
Line Attenuation 41.0 db 23.5 db
Noise Margin 17.4 db 13.0 db

From some of the online calculators I've found it looks like I should be able to get a better connection speed (perhaps 8Mb d/l, and something a bit better u/l) - does this seem a reasonable assumption? If so what's the best procedure, just leave it a few days to sync? Disconnect the router every so often? Checking My Sky shows 'no information at present' re. line testing, although I thought moving to a new package was meant to trigger it?

      Thanks for any advice

you're on DLM, which all customers - new and upgrading - go through so don't bother calling Sky...although it might take up to 24hrs for DLM to actually kick in and switch you to adsl2+...

and leave your router on an go about your business as per usual...

You must have done a quick edit or I need my eyes tested(again)

Will do - presumably a boost in speed (hopefully!) is the the only sign that I've switched across to ADSL2+?

Re: Sky Broadband Changes - 22nd June

attenuation will rise a few db, and sync will show 4094 or something other 4096 (the DLM configured start speed)...
