it's not lies...where there are people who blatantly flaunt the limits (have heard of people on Base doing 100GB a month) the majority use on or around 10GB a month (on average)...

i think that's where the 'logic' is...the average is less than 10GB - there are someone who use near the 40GB limit (and a few who go WAY over it) but there are also people using barely 1GB a month...

Unfortunately I fail to see the logic in looking at someone who stays legitimately within the stated limit and then thinking that as a result of them staying within their limits that the limit should be lowered and those users forced onto a higher cost package. I can only assume that when the 40Gb limit was originally introduced that Sky never intended that all their users be able to use that capacity and therefore doesn't have the infrastructure to support it.

edit: I suppose that one analogy would be all car users being told that they can only use their cars five days a week, because 'on average' most car drivers only use their cars for five days a week, despite all car users paying car tax at the same rate.

If that's the case, why not take action against those users, rather than alienating the majority of customers which is what seems to be happening. I guess I'm in the middle, but have no way of knowing if I'm 10, 15, 20 or 40gb. The bulk of our usage is Wii and internet radio, with some up/downloading mainly photos via facebook. If Sky have the data, why don't they share it with their customers as other ISP's (Plusnet) do?

You can't say "it's not lies" and expect it to be believed without providing the evidence!

Of course there will be some people who would download the whole of the internet if they could just because they can - that's just human nature!

If that's the case then you have to ask why Sky haven't simply dealt with these 'offenders' and left those customers alone who do abide by their contracted download limits? Inability to provide proof or just incompetence?

As I keep saying I still believe there's a lot more to these changes than Sky are prepared to admit to?

Incidentally it has been noted that The Broadband Team are once again conspicuous by their absence on this issue!

Sky know the usage as they can check by the usernames...

So why not deal with the users who are exceeding their allowance? What will the difference be now anyway, those people will still continue to exceed it and Sky will continue to allow them too, what's changed.

If the guys on Base who are doing 100gb a month haven't been dealt with why would they deal with the guys on Mid doing it?

Poor network management by Sky again, customer suffer.

Question Re: Sky Broadband Changes - 22nd June

Well I'm currently away from home and have been keeping up to date with the Sky "improvements" on the 'My Sky' section of their website.

      It now states:

      Your Sky Broadband

You have Sky Broadband Unlimited which offers a maximum download speed of up to 20Mb
      Speed Estimate

When you purchased Sky Broadband, we estimated that the maximum download speed for your line was: 10-20Mb

      Also:

      Your Connection details

Line testing is not currently in progress.

I got someone to check the router stats, even got them to restart after I noticed there was no improvement in the download and upload speeds.

The speed & noise levels etc. etc. remain the same and are currently:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 15415 kbps 764 kbps
Line Attenuation 29 db 7.5 db
Noise Margin 7 db 17 db

I know the download speak will not increase, but shouldn't there be some improvement in the upload speed?

Yes. the upload speed is increasing to 1.3Mb and looking at your stats you should get close to or the full speed.

Your line will go through DLM again and the new speed set, you should get something like an email 2 or 3 days before it happens.
